Instant Crash On Start

I played this game years ago. Now it is instantly crashing as soon as it starts. I have the game launching in windowed mode, as administrator. I have verified game cache at least like 20 times, it says 2 files are gone every time and they will be re-downloaded but it does not seem they actually do get downloaded.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled about 5 times. Restarted my pc, verifed cache. Still will not launch. I even tried compatibility mode and nothing is working. I get a white window, that then just crashes.

I've got the same problem on one of my PCs but it runs without issue on my other PC. I updated the C++ redistributable and managed to get further, but it still crashed and then hasn't been able to get as far since. Very annoying as I had a friend over specifically to play this, then it didnt work!

strange i just downloaded it through steam then updated it and runs fine for me. hope this gets fixed and doesnt make you hate the game it needs more people aha

Every time i verified the game files it down loaded 2 files but did not fix the problem. I've had problems with Hyper-threading in other games like Time Shift so i disabled it and now its fine.

I swear i already replied to this but it seems like its not posted. I have fixed my issue with the game. I will go through exactly what I did so it can be replicated if need be. This may be why one of your pc's works fine and the other does not, it was my CPU having 16 cores.

I deleted the old C++ as some people had said to do. did not fix anything. I went into the installation folder for the game and installed the old C++ located in the install folder. This did not fix the problem. I went to the final step that others recommended. If you have a 16 core CPU you need to disable half of them so only 8 cores run. I used AMD master for my AMD CPU, it has a setting called "Legacy Mode" which will disable 8 of the cores. You need to restart your PC every time you turn this mode on and off.

Setting my CPU to legacy mode and only having 8 cores running, is what let me play the game with no issues. The only issue, is that it sucks mega hard to only be using half the cores and needing to restart my pc when i turn off this mode.

TLDR: If you have a 16 core CPU, and you are having issues with this game crashing on launch, Disable 8 of those cores. AMD Ryzen CPU's can use the program AMD Master made by AMD, to turn on Legacy Mode to disable the 8 other cores.

Well the problem is that the CPU I'm getting this issue on is an AMD Phenom II x4 925. Its not even 8 cores. The PC it works on is a FX-8370 which is also 8 or lower. I get the same problem mentioned above, validate files, 2 files need to be reacquired 8.9mb. Every, single, time.

A legend by the name of [WS CM] Sol Khan on the Space Marine Community Discord (https://discord.gg/MTQ6G6d) gave me the fix for this issue, and now I bestow it upon you brothers.

You need to replace gamePC.cfg, which is found in C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\THQ\Relic Entertainment\Space Marine, with this file https://www.dropbox.com/sh/t2po6ung3fx44lq/AABV7bNUgOeoufdt87hpQGeHa?dl=0

Run as admin, and you're good to go! I can't believe this worked but my gamePC.cfg file was zero bytes, so I'm guessing it was corrupted but steam couldn't figure that out or it just isn't touched by steam.

not sure if this helps but I just installed today after getting back into warhammer and it would show a black screen and then just go to my desktop and never load even though it was running.

I went to the .exe file where the game is installed and selected "Disable fullscreen optimization" and I also selected "Launch in 640X480" and then it finally launched and I just changed the resolution in game. Worked perfectly.

Can you play that online though? I'm not against the idea but the point is that I'm trying to play Exterminatus with my friend
