Captain Titus is kinda what the Emperor had in mind for Space Marines.
Not flaming or anything like that, just an opinion and of course I may be wrong as I'm kinda newish to the lore.

From what I can gather the Codex (in lore) is like a combat manual for Special Forces or Commando or whatever, in short the Elite soldiers of the Adeptus Astartes. The Emperor (Dave? lol jk) never wanted humanity to become a religious theocracy but well.....

Titus, while being very loyal to the chapter, emperor and the codex, treats the codex more as a guide than an actual Vitalogy of living and faith. Just like an actual (or present day) special forces soldier they think outside the box and don't accept failure as an option. Meaning.... even if the Codex Astartes doesn't allow for a lazer to be dropped on a tonne of Orcs, if it gets the job done than.... SPLAT!

Like I said I could be wrong and this is just my opinion. Just thought I'd type that.

Also shame we never got the trilogy for this (game sales and THQ sinking I know) but in No.2 Titus would've been working for the Inquisition as one of their TOP.....MEN! lol but something would happen that basically made him go renegade. No.3 would have been Titus coming back with basically a chapter of fellow renegate marines but all were still loyal to humanity and the Emprah....

Shame but that would've been cool.

Just my two cents.

Honestly. Titus is a better second company captain then the craphouse Gary Stu the Ultramarines got stuck with in the cannon lore.

Funny thing is, that Roboute Guilliman, who wrote the Codex, always intended the Codex as a Guideline right from the start. But 10.000 years of Ignorance, lies, halftruths and myths turned it into a quasi religious tome, which has to be followed word by word or you are a deviant or Heretic.

Same goes for Big E´s Imperial Truth, which is now considered heretical and punishable by death.
