Can't get the game to work.

So I got this game for free from humble bundle earlier today, but when starting it up my screen remains black though I do hear sound and I think I can interact with the menu by pressing certain buttons. I've verified the game cache, tried to force the game to launch in windowed mode, changed my desktop's resolution, ran it as administrator, and ran it in compatability mode for older windows versions. Nothing worked in the end?

I'd like to play the game but simply can't, does anyone have advice?

It's because the game launches on a weird resolution by default

There’s a few answers in this discussion forum - check some of the older posts ( I think one was to start it -windowed from the steam launch options and config from there)

Yeah for me it defaulted to 1280x720. I had to manually set it to 1920x1080. Starnge for a game from 2011. Great game though, glad I got it for free.

You can force the game to launch in Windowed mode by right-clicking it in your Steam Library, clicking "Properties", clicking "Set Launch Options" then typing "-window" in the textbox. Okay it, then close the box.

The game will launch in Windowed mode, so you can set the resolution to your native display, quit, then remove "-window" from "Set Launch Options".

You can only do it through Steam - editing the start menu shortcut or the .exe itself will not work. I've had similar black-screen-resolution issues with other games on my Radeon-based laptop, but no problems with nVidia graphics chipsets.

As a final hint, be sure to use a gamepad to play. By design Space Marine is a Gears of War clone (and was designed for Xbox 360 and PS3), and is difficult to play with a keyboard and mouse.
