Replacing a Special Infected model?
How do I replace the model for a Special Infected? I tried searching how to online, but it's all either survivor models, or just changing the infected's textures. Directing me to a tutorial of how to do this would help too...

Just use the survivor tutorial, and only do the relevant parts. That's how I learned to do it.

Decompile an extracted special infected .mdl with crowbar (Spitter requires an additional step, being turning on "Include $definebone lines (typical for view models)" to prevent animation errors). Get the .smd .vta .qc files. Open .smd in a 3D modeling program with an smd plugin. Replace mesh with new mesh. Rerig new mesh. Export mesh as .smd. Don't forget to apply textures at any step in the process. Export new mesh as .smd. Add $bbox -16.0 -16.0 -13.0 16.0 16.0 75.0 in the .qc file before the $sequence lines (to prevent consistency errors). Create .vmt and .vtf (for textures). Don't forget to make first-person arms for Versus mode.

It's very similar to survivor making, though there are some additional steps involved.

You want to find the special infected models? You need a tool to open VPK files: https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/GCFScape

Then go to steamapps\common\Left 4 Dead 2\left4dead2
and open up pak01_dir.vpk and navigate to models/infected/

do i legit have to do all of this complicated stuff? seems way too much just to play around with literally a few mods
take a mod of a infected u wanna mod like say a tank

then extract the vpk

then you decompile and plop him into blender or 3dmax (i use blender)

then you import your model size him up right

then you edit the model to fit bones (or move them to the body part you want) WARNING IT WILL STRETCH IF YOU PICK TO DO THAT

then you should have a boned figure (if u used automatic weights) if you weight panted your self thats fine too

then delete its models smd then export into the model file you put the models sources in

then replace it

compile it

make a vpk

plop in addons folder
