Use "Item Randomizer" if you want completely random results on item/ object conversions (& awp becomes one of random conversion results). & use "Item Conversion" if you want to set your own conversion results of specific items/ objects as you like (examples: convert adrenaline shot to awp, traffic cone to awp, plastic chairs to awp, etc).
Like why
AWP suits my playstyle and has accuracy (quick aiming), damage, and mag size (plus the sound(s) of the weapon). Powerful weapon that requires skill and focus for effective use. Best coupled with a powerful melee weapon for versatility.
Extra (background) story below:
Recently, I've played FFA matches with bots in Xonotic (free arena shooter like Quake III Arena and first Unreal Tournament). I like the InstaGib mutator (InstaGib rifle). I've recently beaten highest difficulty bots on all maps in FFA, 3 bots in a match (InstaGib). AWP is similar to that weapon because it's one-shot kill and quick to aim. I don't use the military rifle so far because it's too slow to aim (I cannot be mobile enough for my preferences).
Recently, I had to resort to the scout rifle or the hunting rifle because of the lack of AWP. :(
I do use other guns though besides these precision weapons.
I admit I didn't expect to like AWP so much, I played CSS a lot (many years ago) but never grew attatched to this weapon in CS.
Generally, I like rifles in video games and AWP is really good as a rifle (in my view).
I will give this a try and give you feedback once I finish a game or two. :)
Edit: I might decide to replace scout (and maybe the military rifle as well) with the script and have AWP instead. I don't intend to resort to literal cheats, but not having an opportunity to use your favourite weapon for so long can be frustrating.
If you want to mod it I guess you should use the command (director_cs_weapon_spawn_chance) and set it towards 1, currently it's set to 0.25. So when a weapon spawns there is a 1/4 chance that it gets replaced with a counter strike weapon. Problem is there are already probabilities set for other weapons. So it is a lot rarer then what it seems.
I've set my command to around 0.67, increasing the odds to 3/4 chance for a weapon to be replaced by it's counterpart. Allowing you to still use other weapons and also the counter strike weapons here and there.
I have just played with the item converter and I must say that AWP might have been a bit overrated in my previous opinion of the weapon.
Regarding the item converter: I think there is one mistake:
To properly convert an item to AWP, you need to type "weapon_sniper_awp_spawn" instead of "weapon_awp_spawn"
The instructions just say "awp" instead of "sniper_awp"
I couldn't run the script properly without fixing this myself.
However, I have played on consoles, so I know how it is to play a shooter with a controller. Halo: Reach (Xbox 360) did this best, I think.
Anyway, it's good to see that you could finally make use of the mod to spawn your favourite awp.
