Why won't L4D2 work? D:
I was playing the game earlier today and it was working fine. Later I updated the software on my laptop to Windows 8.1 (originally 8.0) and now the game crashes everytime I join a game and "click to play." Idk what the deal is. Any thoughts? Is there a way to re-install the game on Steam? Anyone else had this problem or have any ideas? Any help would be great. :O

Launch with "-safe"? What exactly does that mean?

Confirmed then. Verify Game Integrity before re-installing. Check video and sound drivers.

Okay so I ran the Verify Game Integrity files and it works again. I guess that's what needs to be done for anyone who installs Windows 8.1. Thanks everyone.

Actually that's what needs to be done as a first line of troubleshooting towards any game on Steam.

I've never really ran into any trouble with games on Steam thusfar (I only play a handful of games on Steam), so I wouldn't know. But thanks for the info Knappy.
Having the same problem. My PC reboots all the time.

Reboots or BSOD?
So "-safe" thing didn't work for me. Trying getting the latest drivers. If that doesn't work, will report a bug.
Didn't work. How can I contact Valve's support?

BTW, it's actually BSOD.

Download BlueScreenView[www.nirsoft.net], or see here[www.nirsoft.net] and the next time you get a BSOD, after you reboot run the program and it will allow you to see the cause of the BSOD.

For example I occassionaly get a BSOD in the middle of a game from "portcls.sys" which is a sound card/driver issue, not a problem from Valve.

Valve won't help with BSOD unless it's proven there is a direct issue concering their files.

Post your BlueScreenView report here or screenshot it and upload, or just add me and I'll take a look.
