What caused the zombie outbreak in Left 4 Dead?

If there are ceda, then most likely it's a man-made virus outbreak caused by virus leakage by mistake, like how modern zombie movies usually do.

The Green Flu is a virus that alters the biology and physiology of those afflicted, but it's exact origin is not officially confirmed.

All we know, is that the most likely patient zero is an unknown man who was brought to Mercy Hospital for treatement in the ICU ward. From there, the infection likely kept spreading and afflicting more people, until a few days later it began turning them into zombie-like creatures.

It's most likely that the green flu is a naturally occurring virus that mutated from rabies, as the government wouldn't have responded so slowly if they had been the ones to create it, as they should've known it's full potential from the moment it got reported.

even modern zombie films also have the contaminated burger or food, as it was showcased in zombieland and that one simpsons halloween episode from 2009.

Xen alien germs that got on one of the Marines in Half-Life to which one of them must have got it on some food in Philadelphia and the outbreak occured and the Infected putting a hindrance on all of the world militaries which is why it took them and the Infected only 7 hours to get obliterated by the Combine.
