L4D3 CAN exist. It CAN be successful. You just have to wait for the stars to align.
Basically, this series dodged a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ tomahawk and nobody realized it.
Everyone is so focused on wanting a new instalment that nobody even thinks about the fact that it would very likely end up being terrible.
Not to mention everyone either has no idea what could be added or the suggestions made are terrible ideas that don't fit the series at all.
i still hope
The game always followed a linear setting of make it from point A to point B as fast as possible with the hope of rescue, turns out in nearly every circumstance the survivors are always well... 'surviving'. It gets repetitive fast. You have two games in the US, you might as well see what others parts of the world are like. Would actually justify the creation of new infected as that particular strain couldn't have reached the Americas instead of just lazily transitioning over into L4D2 with no logic added.
Speaking of which, the fact that the virus is never explained just shows incompetence in writing. Instead you have to give thoughts and speculation about what the virus is through graffiti. That might sound cool but you're never going to get a valid answer. Just one of the gripes I have in zombie games, at least explain this ♥♥♥♥ instead of a side-stepping it.
Anyway...
I would say the right idea would to be branch off these paths, so that in one map there isn't just one end saferoom to go by. In L4D2 you had options of small divisions but they always ended up in the same place two minutes later. The finale could have two completely separate maps depending on what option you choose, I think that would be pretty neat.
Valve would have to be more involved with balancing and bug fixing, making sure that either route wasn't simple an option between easy and hard. Though I'd just put a selection menu in a match-making system where you can force particular routes for that specific mode. Especially in versus you'd need some care. Valve isn't really known for this sort of design philosophy. This is what L4D2 should've been if they didn't rush it so much.
That's an inherent flaw within L4D itself, but a class-based open world is never going to outperform.
Yeah in a massively under-populated mostly-empty country across the ocean. Morocco is a trash decision.
Even for L4D standards that's too unrealistic. The virus would have to radically mutate to cope with the desert climate.
Valve.
