For the tier 1 firearms the suppressed SMG reigns king; full on mag dumping in a tank can drop it in 35 seconds on Expert.
Now for the potentially fastest way to kill the tank the chainsaw requires at most eight seconds to make ground beef out of the largest zombie in the game. Getting that close though is risky as not only are you in smacking distance but the chainsaw has a long draw time.
A full team of m60s is slightly faster, but due to the weapon’s nature it is unreliable and inconsistent.
The Autoshotguns and chainsaw also kill a tank slightly faster I think, but have the downside of requiring the players to stay close to the tank to deal full damage.
So in practice, the ak47 is the most consistent and reliable weapon to kill a tank, followed by the military sniper.
A well balanced and versatile team with a variety of weapons works best against a Tank, especially in Versus since Tanks will often play passively until survivors are in a situation it can close distance.
AK47 doesn't help much when the Tank is sniping rocks at you from a roof for example and is better used covering a Survivor with a Sniper from commons / specials, and vice versa if the Tank is in close range.
Also to note, a Tank that is locked in an animation (Bot Tank) or a player Tank that is distracted is a great target for Melee weapons. They do quite a bit of damage to a Tank and for Bot Tanks you can disengage after about 2-3 hits without any punishment except maybe FF.
Still good for player Tanks, but most player Tanks aren't going to let themselves get lit on fire unless they are going all in anyway.
for real tho its accurate aim with the ak47 / m60 (or passably a sniper in versus) you could even argue that the shotgun is the best as its easily the best for chip damage (maybe while running away from it or going to pick up a teamate while the tank is on someone else)
most weapons are efficient against the tank and in the end its teamwork that gets the job done. stats aren't everything when there is so meany random factors to begin with (ofc not saying weapon choice is irrelevant)
what is the weapon of choice just comes down to the situation at hand and how well your team handles the situation its self
i mean the survivor could pull off a good throw and set the tank on fire unexpectedly
i have seen so meany tanks be confident that a survivor wont go for a throw / wont land a throw while they are throwing rocks at you although the survivors can throw their nades almost as far as the tanks rocks
i eventually went way more safe when i used nades as playing with randoms and relying on them to land a molotove in the tanks face and them somehow missing happend quite often (or i was just the only one with a molotov)
but iv had my good throws that pay off especially in positions where people normally think its a safe haven like the helipad / ladder in no mercy final
- Grenade launcher (requires a script that makes it shot 6 instead just 1 grenade)
- Auto shotgun (15% damage penalty on Tank but still very deadly. Needs to be shot in very close range)
- Pump shotgun (Same with autoshottie, minus damage penalty)
