offline mods
sorry for not posting this in the workshop disscussion but i kind of need an answer quick. i just finished installing the game onto my laptop and my at home wifi sucks so ill be playing it offline. i have a few mods installed which loadup and work just fine when im online but when im offline they dont seem to load, is there a way to get the mods to work offline as well? i see them installed in the game files as well, but they wont appear in the ingame addon tab or anything like that.

i don't know about purely offline mods, but if you load them and then disconnect the internet without closing l4d2 they should work until you close the game (at least that works for me)

Mods need an addoninfo.txt in the root folder inside the vpk file or they wont work if you put them in the addon folder in the l4d2 directory however if you want you can add your own with GCFScape because the workshop far as I know only works online if you take them out of the workshop folder and open each one and add an addoninfo.txt drop them into your addon folder in the directory it should work offline or you can get mods from www.gamemaps.com/l4d2/mods they already have the addoninfo.txt in the mods from there. This is the only way I know mods that will work offline anyways hope this helps sorry for all the technical stuff lol. >_<

If you're using purely the Workshop, I don't think your mods will work offline. The game has to check for subscribed addons and any updates. If it can't, the operating procedure seems to be to dump the workshop folder's contents. Or just not use them.

If you want to play with the mods offline, move all of your files from the workshop folder (Steam/steamapps/common/left 4 dead 2/left4dead2/addons/workshop) into the addons folder. I'd recommend doing two other things as well, unsubscribing from the mods so that when you come back online, the game doesn't download duplicate mods to the workshop folder, and favoriting those mods so you can check if they've been updated.

This is effectively a "manual install", and pretty much any .vpk installed to the addons folder that's made correctly will stay there unless you delete it yourself. Manual addons aren't reliant upon being online for them to work.

That's stupid. All the non-valve games have mods that work offline. If you are offline, they just ASSUME it's updated, Mmaybe it is maybe it isn't, this assumption works

Not true a lot of times I don't put an addoninfo file in when I'm testing and they work fine

just copy your workshop folder into a spare folder and name it backup. then copy the addons into your addons folder and they will work just fine
