The author of Helms Deep has been adding malicious code to his addon without you knowing.

If you are subscribed to Helms Deep, you'll notice you are missing your "Quick Match" and "Singleplayer" options or they are rearanged. If you like to use sourcemod plugins, the map will kick you off your very own game for having plugins, as if the author wants to assume the duties of an administrator on your own game. He is a fool to impose restrictions on your gaming experience and you shouldn't let him step all over you.

Now luckily, there's a way to fix this, the first step you should take is to immediately UNSUBSCRIBE from the addon and if you will, REPORT the addon for modifying the main menu elements. Remember, he is NOT A DEVELOPER for L4D2

If you want to have the map without any obstructions to your gameplay experience, you'll need to take it a few steps further.

1) Go to a workshop download site, for example {LINK REMOVED}https://steamworkshopdownloader.io/

2) Put the workshop link to Helms Deep into the URL bar and download the content. I'll link it for your convenience.

3) Within the download should contain a VPK file, place this anywhere on your computer that you find convenient(e.g. desktop), while you are at it, create a new folder where you place the VPK file and give it any name.

4) Download GCF Scape[nemesis.thewavelength.net], using this tool you can open the VPK file you downloaded. When you have opened the VPK file, you should be able to extract its contents of the root folder into the folder you created in Step 3.

5) Within the extracted contents exists a folder called Resource, delete this folder and this should restore your UI back to normal

6) THIS STEP RESTORES SOURCEMOD FUNCTIONALITY(Skip to 9 if you do not use plugins or sv_cheats 1) Within the contents of the addon should be a folder called scripts/vscripts, here should be a file called "helms_deep_r25_survival.nut"
This file can be opened using standard text editor programs, preferably I use Notepad++[notepad-plus-plus.org], use an editor to open this file.

7) Once you have the file open in the editor, press CTRL + F for a search window, at the top of this window should be "Replace," click that. Within the replace field should be two lines for you to type in, what you should put in these fields shoud look like this:[i.gyazo.com]

Find What: sourcemod_version 
Replace with: randomgarbagehere    (This can be anything nonsensical)

Once you done that, click "Replace All"

REPEAT this one more time with metamod_version[i.gyazo.com]

Find What: metamod_version
Replace with: randomgarbagehere

8) THIS STEP RESTORES SV_CHEATS 1 FUNCTIONALITY(Skip to 9 if you do not use sv_cheats 1) Hit CTRL + F again and use the search function to look for "sv_cheats"
Once you hit "Find" it should immediately take you to a snippet of code that looks like this

		Convars.SetValue( "sv_cheats", "0" );
}

Just delete this snippet. Once you have done this, you can now save the file.

9) Now that you are finished making the modifcations to the addon, you can now repack it into a VPK file. To do this, you can locate an executable in your bin folder located at "steamapps\common\Left 4 Dead 2\bin" The executable should be called "vpk.exe"

Just drag and drop the folder you modified into the VPK executable and it should create a brand new VPK file where the folder is located. You can leave this in your addons folder located at "steamapps\common\Left 4 Dead 2\left4dead2\addons"

For consistency purposes you should rename the vpk to the workshop ID of Helms Deep: 121068229

You should now have a clean version of Helms Deep Reborn, and remember, just because it's on the workshop doesn't mean it's safe, an author can update their addon any time they like to add malicious code or backdoors to their content.

EDIT 01/09/19:

User JAiZ has provided a workshop addon that can restore the UI elements back to normal if you are still subscribed to Helms Deep, this skips the process of having to edit the VPK file.

I also set an answered post to a plugin that will let you play with sourcemod on the map. You can still download and edit the map and get the same result, these are just faster alternatives.

This makes me glad i don't play that map to begin with, seems quite litterally rarted to just remove basic stuff like singleplayer or quick match, it in no way enhances the mod, what's even the point of it? It's just straight up dumb.

Have to agree that prohibiting the map from being played on servers with sourcemod / metamod is a horrible design choice.

If you run a dedicated server which is online 24/7, it’s not like you can pop in when a group of randoms decide to load into the map and disable sourcemod/metamod for that one game session.

Luckily you can use a plugin which enables the map, or follow this guide.

To put it bluntly yes! Unsubscribing the map will restore your game's UI to how it should be, but lets be fair this shouldn't BE a fix to a problem that SHOULDN'T even exist.

What's even funnier is that you can even add your own steamid to the donator table in the helms_deep_r25_survival.nut file to give yourself the benefits without having to pay. Or alternatively you can completely get rid of having to be donator in the first place by getting rid of the donator check for the commands.
