Midnight Riders Expansion | A full idea.

So I feel like probably a lot of people have thought about this. The Midnight Riders are a pretty emphasized part of L4D2. And the section where you fight a horde on the Midnight Riders' stage is very memorable. Rumors back in 2009 even hit gaming sites, and news feeds. Primarily, the easter egg website, all about the Midnight Riders. (http://www.midnight-riders.com)

I was wondering, what if there was a Midnight Riders DLC? I personally hate DLCs, but I think this would be really cool. If they didn't want to make it a DLC, they could always make it a spinoff, based before L4D2.

So, obviously, the Midnight Riders expansion (let's just call it that.) would involve the Midnight Riders themselves, fighting the horde. I'll start putting all the juicy stuff below.

Characters: Ox, Smitty, Jake, & Dusty. (The band members.)

Gameplay:
Pretty much the same as L4D & L4D2.

Story (Chapter 1):
The Midnight Riders are currently setting up the stage. (L4D2's Dark Carnival) During the setup, Dusty is tuning the guitars. He spots in the corner of his eye, someone standing below the stage. He walks up to the edge of the stage, and tries to talk. "Hey, what are you doing here?" The idle person looks up. He's completely bald, and blood can be seen over their mouth. Dusty is shocked. "Uh, fellas!" The strange person jumps, and grabs his leg. Smitty runs over, and jumps down. He grabs the man, and throws him to the side. Dusty gets up. "What the ♥♥♥♥!?" Smitty yells. Ox and Jake run over to Smitty, and Dusty. Ox and Jake quickly see the zombie like man. It gets back up, and sprints to the stairs to the stage. Jake punches it, and they begin to run indoors. Several staff members are dead, and the stage manager can be seen split in half. The members realize that the Green Flu is more than what they had thought.

Goal (Chapter 1):
- Grab the guitars, and use them as weapons.
- Get to the Midnight Riders van, and escape.

Story (Chapter 2):
After the Midnight Riders escape in their van, they make it to a member's house. (I'm not sure who, that can be decided later.) They have a gun rack. They are an avid fan of hunting. Ox runs to the TV, and turns it on. The Emergency Broadcast System is on. The high pitched tone plays, and scrolling white text inform them that an outbreak has occured. The members board up the house, and create a Safe Room. A couple weeks later, they realize that they can't stay there forever. They will be overrun, and supplies will be depleted. They soon equip themselves, and load the van. They head out to friends, to see if they are alive. 3 friends are alive, and urge them establish a new Safe Room.

Goal (Chapter 2):
- Fight the horde.
- Find your friends.

Story (Chapter 3):
Their friends shortly died afterwards. One was mauled. Another one was bitten, and wasn't immune. The last one died of dysentery. (Just kidding. They left the group, because they didn't feel safe enough.) The Midnight Riders eventually decide they need to find another place, and set off. They make it to the Liberty Mall, in Savannah, Georgia, feeling that a large group of stores and kiosks would be a large place to settle in, even if there were zombies.

Goal (Chapter 3):
- Fight The Horde
- Create a Safe Room.

Story (Chapter 4):
Every few weeks, the Midnight Riders gather supplies, and remove a few zombies from the area. Eventually, the radio that they had took had made a broadcast. There is a safeplace, somewhere in New Orleans. They set off to find it.

Goal (Chapter 4):
- Fight the Horde.
- Find a secure area, and Create a Safe Room.

Story (Chapter 5):
The Midnight Riders could not find a safe area, but do find the Military. They avoid them, as there have been other survivors. They were shot down by the Military. The Midnight Riders realize that the Military will not help them, and they must try and live for as long as possible. Eventually, the Military discovers the Safe Room, and the Midnight Riders are forced to find a new place.

Goal (Chapter 5):
- Fight the Horde.
- Avoid the Military.
- Find a secure area, and Create a Safe Room.

After Chapter 5, the game ends. The Midnight Riders are forced to repeatedly flee, and establish new Safe Rooms. It becomes a part of life, though repetitive, and dangerous. Their condition is unkown after this, and will not be discovered until Left 4 Dead 3.

(Btw, while I was writing this, I pictured a fully complete version of this game. It's beautiful.)

A friend of mine is working on a dark carnival remake and wanted the finale to feature the midnight riders, unfortunately we couldn't get anyone who'd be willing to make the models for them cheaply.

Valve won't make anything official, but the community can take care of certain things, if you find a modeller and work together with some mappers or other modders, you could make that "expansion" come true.

Pretty sure the guy who did the voices for the midnight riders songs has since left Valve. So even in a hypothetical they couldnt do it without recasting the voices, which would be a bit odd.

Oh no. It's the official Midnight Riders website. Valve made it as an easter egg, but a lot of people back in 2009 though it was hinting at something.
