It branches off from Death Toll, you can find the pickup truck in an out of bounds area, and leads back into Dead Air after the Slaters kick them off the boat.
The campaign serves as an alternate route, had the survivors decided to hop the fence and follow the dirt road instead of signalling for a boat in Death Toll.
That is how you know it’s clearly not canon.
The survivors are allergic to the mere idea of hopping over a fence or other obstacles.
Welcome to video games for the past decade
The Last Stand while new until the end of the second map is officially made by Valve, so the branching off is not far fetched at all.
