Also get ready for IGN L4D2 2020 Review. (If they are gonna do a review)
It's about time these bad excuses for journalists, these urinalists, frauds, paid shills like IGN learn the lesson that you cannot just take another person's property (trailer) without permission and reupload it and profiteer off of it with ads.
And yes, I temporarily turned off adblocker and launched the video in incognito mode. IGN's reupload IS monetized.
These people make journalism into a joke.
If I wanted news on a game I'd likely have a friend spam message me on discord of it, like one did for the last stand update.
It is a matter of ethics and or propriety really
It´s encouraged, afaik. Are you sure you´re not crying wolf here?
If they make reference to the original work (which I think they do), it does not seem like it´s being distributed separately.
I´m not sure about the advertisements though. Are there even any advertisements? If there are no advertisements... than they´re not making any profit from it. Right?
If there are advertisements coming with that video, than it could be a problem.
I´m getting some advertisements here from IGN.
I am not sure if this is okay. Something about the YouTube partner program... IGN could have asked, I suppose.
On the other hand like someone else said the exposure is much better. So is the exposure worth having the vid ripped.... thats up to the guys developing the update.
I thought journos had to provide commentry or something to rip vids like that. Like how reviewers have to talk over trailers or it gets claimed and struck down?
I was never contacted by IGN nor did I give them permission to republish the entire teaser without any edits (so it's not fair use)
I filed a copyright complaint, but just got a response fro myoutube stating "For each video in question, please provide precise identification of the particular copyrighted work(s) allegedly infringed and the basis for asserting that claim." - despite the fact I filled in literally every single box and question in the form.
I'm still trying to sort it out, but yes, IGN are thieves who stole the video and are profiting from it.
Compared to every other gaming news outlet, IGN are the only ones who straight up ripped it 1:1, all the others added their own commentary and thoughts to it, making it fair use. IGN took it without any changes whatsoever and is profiting from it, parading it around as if their upload is the official one.
I have confirmed that nobody at Valve authorized IGN to re-upload it, nor was there any deal authorizing them to do so.
Valve encourages the publishing of content featuring their intellectual property, so SFM artwork and videos that are transformed and utilized ot create something new. They do not permit anyone to re-publish their assets without any changes.
IGN has also not even given proper credits - the least they could've done would be a link to the original to give due credit.
They do, and every outlet so far has done that! Even as little as putting text or a voiceover on top of the teaser running in the background counts as being fair use. We love seeing people react to videos, see VNN or wow such gaming for great examples of using the teaser and adding on top of it.
It's more to do with the scummy practices that a multi-million corporation is doing and has clearly shown is has failed in following copyright laws. They didn't even link Jaiz's channel in the description and just slapped on the IGN logo at the end. This is like the fiasco with Helms Deep where the author claimed they owned the video when they actually didn't. You should stand up for your rights and demand concessions, you own it afterall.
