You can only assume to be infected, aside from Whitaker since he was never near them as the survivors are carriers.

Which assuming if Whitaker didn't get infected which would be low, I can only assume he died of thirst or had to find somewhere to get clean uninfected water since as you'll see when you play the game, the store is nearly/completely empty.

Either way most of them are either infected or in the case of Whitaker, still in his gunstore.

That pilot got bit by infected before arriving to hospital. What pilot says on the radio during finale suggests this, saying he had an "incident".

I have no idea about dark carnival pilot though.

Slater boat is seen on The Sacrifice 2nd chapter. They both dead probably. No Mercy's pilot crashed as seen in Crash Course 1st chapter. Whitaker is seen on The Passing, Virgil probably doing his Virgin things while alone, Dark Carnival's pilot clapped into trains as seen in Hard Rain 1st chapter, No clue about The Parish pilot, Dead Air pilot, Blood Harvest driver.

Actually carries mean they spread it too. You should check out The
Sacrifice comic, it explains it a bit. Everyone that comes in contact with a carrier gets infected, which is how the infection have spread so quickly.

Who cares? They were background characters that Valve couldn't even be bothered to model. (Yes I know Whitaker is modeled for about three seconds, but he literally looks like a dehydrated turd).

Virgil went back to Italy (where he came from) and wrote a poetry book on the epic of the survivors with him that will be read by generations of generations of survivor's children.
Whitaker died soon after the outbreak because he couldn't use the bathrooms as a soda bottle was obstructing the way.
Inspired by Francis suggestion on living on the boat, John and Amanda set the record of the longest sea trip without going back ashore, since they died sailing. They left behind them 5 children and 15 grandchildren that will soon re-populate the seas in order to prepare human-kind to the Waterworld apocalyspe.


All of this is canon btw.

Whitaker:

Probably chilling in his hideout, waiting for the infected wave to pass over. There's really no way of knowing what happend to him, he might've starved to death, gotten infected on a supply run, or been bombed by the army, or he might have survived by either waiting out the infectedor being rescued.

Midnight Rider bus:

Likely the midnight riders escaping by bus, or fans who hijacked their tour bus. Probably dead, since the way they're going consists of dead ends and the bus is nowhere to be seen when looking around jimmy gibbs jr's car in the finale, so they must have gone the opposite way that the l4d2 survivors came from, AKA back to dead center, which is overrun by infected.

News chopper 5 Pilot:

Confirmed Dead
Got bit/infected before picking up the survivors, dies after turning mid-flight, then crashing before crash course begins.

John and Amanda Slater:

Probably Carriers themself, as they likely picked up survivors prior to the l4d1 cast since all they care about is additional firepower (hence why the l4d1 survivors get kicked off when it turns out they're out of ammo). The Saint Lydia (their boat) is visible in the sacrifice map 2, but this is just a reused asset, since another Saint Lydia can be found floating around safely.

C-130 Pilot:

In the Sacrifice comic, francis mentions that the plane crashed, so it's possible the l4d1 cast (who are confirmed carriers) infected the pilot, causing the airplane to crash. However, considering how lethal a plane crash would be, it's more likely it was an emergency landing at an airport at the start of Dam it, where the pilot probably died on impact. Even if he did survive the landing, he was left behind by the l4d1 cast, so he's pretty screwed no matter how you look at it.

APC Driver (Lieutenant Mora):

Confirmed Dead
After rescuing the l4d1 cast, they proceed t oa military base of operation, which quickly gets overrun. He is shown to be in the process of becoming infected, and is promptly decapitated by a tank on page 114 of the sacrifice comic.

Dark Carnival Pilot:

Confirmed Dead
Most likely a civilian who's trying to help any survivors he comes across, ends up being infected by one of the l4d2 survivors (confirming that at least 1 of them is a carrier) and is shot by Nick upon turning.

Virgil:

Out of all, he has the best chances of still being alive. Considering how much time passed since he was first exposed to the l4d2 survivors (of which one is a confirmed carrier), up until his last appearance in the parish, it's very likely he is either a carrier himself, or straight up immune. He's probably still boating around, trying to help other survivors.

Rescue 7 (Parish pilot):

His helicopter is "equipped for carriers", so his odds of survival are extremely high, meaning the pilot is very likely still alive.

That should be all the NPCs we directly or indirectly see in-game
