It's always on, and is a fundamental part of the game - it prevents you from just run 'n gunning, firing wildly at anything that moves, and spraying your teammates if anything gets close to them. L4D without FF isn't L4D anymore.

Some servers give fire friend deactivated or mirror (do that instead of damaging your equipment you harm yourself), or if you want more fire friend you kicked. I usually like fire friend but when you play in public with people who do not know you will come to kill you for troll. Then thanks to mod admin system I could change with the cvar command or using inside a cvars.txt file in the ems / admin system folder.

I played a lot of PvP mods on expert so those raked it up.
