RAGE 2
Artifacts and flickering with vsync off
Finally got some time to play Rage 2 after beating outer worlds and for some reason the game has graphical flickering issues- more so when looking in certain directions. Even when it's not doing that the Sparks in the game draw long lines and look like tracer rounds or something lol it's driving me nuts. Ticked all the graphics options on and off and found vsync on was the only thing that made the flickering stop but it makes the game frame rate have random drops into the 40s and I'm on a 144hz monitor so it kinda defeats the purpose of a fast paced shooter on that screen. I have a ryzen 3600 and a 5700 XT with the latest drivers and BIOS. On mostly ultra settings I can usually maintain 75fps+ no problem. Any suggestions?

Huh seems vsync isnt the only way to make it better. Tried ticking all the settings on and off and while some flickering and weird disappearing of the edges of the graphics during faster turning happens, setting AA to FXAA or off removes almost all of the flickering unless you look directly at the sun. All the other settings seem to have very little change but compound the problem more so lowest settings have the least flickering even with AA off. Only Vsync seems to take care of almost all of the issues except a couple strange graphics glitches but it feels terrible in this game even when set to 144hz and creates a lot of frame drops

finally someone with exactly the same problem as me ! i got 5700xt like you; i don't want to activate vsync cause i like playing with freesync@144hz. i go to do some tests with your tips.
I haven't found any solution looking on youtube. strange that no one has this problem. i thought it was an hardware problem to my vga (sapphire nitro+)

Yeah seems to be only affecting 5700 and XT users, mine is actually a 5700 flashed to an XT, wonder if 5600 or 5500 people have any of these issues

Yesterday I stopped in front of a similar effect of lighting bug and I've tried to change every suspected effect from video options menu and nothing happened. Except this, the game visuals and the frame rate are very good. This game as got a real spectacular environment ! Anyway no one talk about this issue. I got latest adrenalin drivers, but also with previous version there was the same problem.

Yeah who knows, I feel like they gave up on the game pretty quick after it came out unfortunately, and after the blunder of Just Cause 4 as well I don't think the studio has anymore plans to fix it :/

Nothing I do seems to solve this issue. Textures just never resolve and weirdly enough, it happens mostly with textures at a distance, though it did happened on the floor once. Hardware is not being pushed out of the ordinary. Only happens with this game. I'm also using the gamepass version. Ryzen 3600, 32gb of ram, rtx 2070, x570 motherboard and a ultrawide gsync monitor.

No Caravana, it's not like this, but this game has got strange artifacts; if you search on YouTube , you'll find them.

Hmm mine kinda looks like that at times but it's hard to tell since the glitches are always in a flickering motion

I finnally fixed it by locking to 60hz, with vsync on. What a strange bug.

Interesting Caravana, i will try to solve my problem with your solution, but i bought a monitor with freesync @144hz some day ago to play better, and now this game needs 60 hz ? lol :-)

Yeah vsync 60 is the only way to completely solve it

I just tried the game out with Xbox Game Pass and while driving around I suddenly faced this:
https://gyazo.com/fabcea65b1f089a2d5c8c50579c96b8e

It's only in certain areas. I immediately freak out about artifacts because I fear that my GPU could be broken (though I never had this before in any other game) so reading this is kinda calming me down. Though I hate playing FPS in 60 fps (though I gotta say that this game kinda feels like it was made for 60. The movement doesn't feel very smooth using 144).

Guess I might skip this one then. Bummer, I really enjoyed the first Rage

This game is technically trash. I've had all the issues listed here, the crazy flickering without Vsync and the texture stretching issues. Bethesda support couldn't resolve it. This game is just poorly made.

(flicker warning)
https://youtu.be/QIRfiuKirGI

I've had the issue on a wide array of GPUs ad configurations, different CPUs, motherboards, RAM, SSDs, even NVIDIA and AMD GPUs.

I had RTX 2060 SUPER, RTX 2070 and GTX 1660 SUPER
RX 5700 and RX 590 and RX 5500 XT

Turning off RTSS / On Screen Display / FreeSync doesn't help in any situation, since I initially thought it was an RTSS issue.

All cards had these issues with texture stretching and the flickering. The only way to resolve the flicker is to run at Vsync with Refresh at 60, which is disgusting on a 144 Hz monitor. This hasn't been resolved in at least 10 months since I last contacted their support.

I know this is Steam, but my game is on the Microsoft GamePass thing for PC, but I thought I'd add this here.

I give up on trying to get this game to work. I don't want to play it at 60 FPS because it feels horrible. Removed from my PC and won't be re-installing, which is a shame, because it felt like it could have been fun.

Resurrecting this thread to see if steam users are having this issue or if it's a problem with the game pass version. I have had this issue with the game pass version as well and have seen several other xgp users have issues with this game. Any steam users or preferably, folks who have tried both versions want to chime in? I would happily pick this game up on steam if it fixed these issues.

No one? Guess next time it goes on deep sale I will check it out and post my results here. I think this game looks awesome and I adored Avalanche's Mad Max.Sigh
