RAGE 2

Is 'nightmare' difficulty too hard?
I started playing on nightmare, and played just under six hours. This was because some threads said that Rage 2 is easy, even on hard.

What bothers me is that I find it means I really need to use the Phoenix to help me kill. Like when killing enemies along the road, or when approaching bases or enemy camps.

I means I am loosing out on collecting Feltrite, because I am using car for enemy kills. Whereas if I played on Hard, it would swing things my way. I also die quite a lot. (I remember dying in the original Rage, so it feels normal to die.)

I have also heard that Rage 2 gets easier as you upgrade. That makes me think I should continue playing on Nightmare.

Keep in mind, on release there was a difficulty bug that set the game to easy. So people thought they were playing on hard/nightmare but they weren't. Supposedly this has been fixed.

For me nightmare was very hard in the beginning but after you get some powers and upgrades it gets easier.

Yeah my play in Nightmare difficulty is holding. (I heard it set to easy every time you start game.)

Very hard. Dying more than I'd like. Starting an enemy encampment means lots of rounds to drop a few enemies. While even one hit scratch from an enemy means lots of damage. I go straight though healing aids. Then die and it means all that long drawn out shooting is wasted.

Think I might change to Hard.

the difficulty bug is still in the game, i'm on hard and it is actually easy/normal.

Fixed in my game. I made a fresh download, as I bought it in the current sale.

Yeah, it becomes a lot easier when you've upgraded your skills, getting more weapons, increased your health etc. Just keep pushing! :) Non-story mini-spoiler: You get a cool skin for your assault rifle if you complete the game on nightmare!

I think I just found an upgrade that will help with surviving. Something called Constitution. Increases resistance to bullets. However not exactly clear what it meant. If it meant overall resistance, of after just having collected Feltrite.

Find the TAB stuff quite confusing. Not meaning the materials for upgrades. The text of what the upgrade does. Like I will spend Feltrite to unlock a weapon upgrade, then find I did not want it.

yeah, the weapon upgrades could use a preview. fill up your constitution first. aim for the head. use focus before you enter a fight so you can see where the enemies are first. use overdrive aggressively, don't wait til you are low on health and this will help you "chain" overdrives. make sure to get the upgrade for "overdrive multiplier" as well...fight goons in the beginning of the game as they usually don't have much armor and are easier to get headshots on...

Actually never used Overdrive. I suppose I ought to get into the habit.

Thanks for the heads-up on Constitution.

BTW, I do believe you can collect feltrite from vehicle kills - at least, I saw the glowy things get sucked up by the Phoenix after I shot a couple of bandits.

Think I am going to have to change difficulty to 'hard'. Nightmare is too hard, and it keeps taking me to the limit of my patience. (Very regularly.) What it means I think, is that it is spoiling a good game. (I just rage quit after many deaths, at a boss fight. Whereas folk say they rarely die, in Rage 2.)

If 'hard' is too easy, then that's better than too hard on nightmare. Like having to drop half an assault rifle clip into a bare torso, just doesn't make sense. Then getting wrecked by couple of shots makes even less sense.

I suppose I could try breaking off from this bossfight and getting some arcs done. However I am not sure that will help. I personally don't use the skills, like dash and deathblow. No idea how anyone is supposed to steer with WASD and reach for 'C', for a dash.

To be honest I think they messed up with skills. I know folk like them, but I never did, even from reviews. Let alone from playing Rage 2.

I have not seen feltrite from vehicle kills, but sure I saw it on Youtube once.

i'm in the same boat but on ultra nightmare. getting more abilities is the only way you're going to kill the baddies fast enough. oh, and to get the shotty you HAVE to do a story mission from john marshall in gunbarrel. i don't know what weapons you have, but you will use the shotty a ton. i think you are probably on the story mission for dr. kvasir? that's one of the most difficult arks in the game, greenhaven ark,...i had to leave and come back later after exploring. the shotgun and charged pulse cannon will destroy people for you. don't forget about the cyber doc in wellspring. you can get extra damage, health and overdrive time from him as well as respec your character skills...

I have the shotty. Had it a while, but never found it powerful. Quicker at close range than assault rifle, but that's all.

I am on mission for Kvasir where SPOILER: I just killed a giant, and am shooting cyborg with human head.

Even after the latest patch from today? I was not sure but it felt like it's still there. Felt like Easy what I was playing before changing it.

What can make this game hard, especially after July 25th "update," are the freezes, crashes, and some missions not working properly. Picking up three car parts for example now does not give 3.

I rarely have problems with any game. Even Rage 2 before todays release worked OK, not one crash in 20 hours. Today, played about 3 hours and had 3 total freezes. Had to ctrl alt del out and terminate with task manager.

I didn't expect it to be this bad. It's shocking.
