RAGE 2

Are the Grav-dart Launcher and Firestorm Revolver Useless?
It seems to me that both are more gimmick-y than useful weapons. They both:

1. Are almost exclusively short-ranged (the former due to its slow-moving projectile, while the latter due to its relative inaccuracy),

2. Have a 2-stage mechanism in order to actually damage a target, both of which take a significant amount of time to perform (especially the revolver with its long "snap" animation),

3. Have mediocre damage output; the launcher typically takes 5 shots to kill a regular bandit, and the revolver 2 shots.

I can't for the life of me think of any reason to use either of these over any other gun, possibly barring novelty. What are your experiences with them?

The Firestorm is outstanding. There are a couple of mods to make it much better but this is my go to weapons for mid range fighting. The fire damage is really a lot when you consider how many bullets it takes to kill with a normal pistol compared to the fire.

It does take a little getting used to but for firing into a crowd it is a fun weapon.

I'm not finding much reason to use anything besides the shotgun unless I'm fighting large enemies, then I use the rocket launcher. I just use the other weapons for funsies.

For me, I find myself using mostly the assault rifle and shotgun (and the rocket launcher for certain situations). Every other weapon feels too gimmicky and weak to use.

Do you have any particular methods for grouping enemies together? I haven't had many situations where they're close enough together for the AoE to matter. Also, both normal pistols can headshot and aim down sights, which seem like better traits for mid-range combat.

The normal pistols feel to me like tryhard weapons (especially the Settler Revolver), but the Pulse Cannon has an insane DPS (particularly with upgrades) and the hyper-cannon is, in my opinion, directly superior to the rocket launcher for single targets, what with its hitscan projectile, higher damage, and precision aiming.

To be honest I mostly use the regular pistol more than anything else as it's easy to score headshots with it. Some of that is just me trying to make the game more challenging, even on hard its far too easy and doesn't incentivise using anything other than regular weapons.

I finished the story now(so annoyed how short it is) so not sure if I'll keep playing.

they're in the game for "fun" factor. if you're only using one or two guns, that's fine, but the point of the game is to give you creative ways to dispatch your enemies and have "fun"....

grav dart launcher is actually pretty useful against the armored syndicate troops, also it can be a mid range weapon if you get the homing primers upgrade

firestorm revolver is useful for forcing enemies out of cover, and for breaching any enemy with a shield if you shoot a flare at their feet and detonate them as this makes them stop blocking their front

it's also fun to turn people into meteorites by combining both of these guns together (flare some people with revolver, then fling them with grav-dart, then detonate flares) but that's more for fun and style than practicality

The game needs a Devil May Cry style meter to incentivize whackier stuff.

The overdrive system is somewhat comparable; certain things stack based on the multiplier, and weapons are more powerful when it activates.

Right, but it just rewards kill multiplier, which actually makes the guns MORE useless as the AR or shotgun are much better.

@TheLich - When you are at mid range, just enough to make the crosshair light up red, that is when the Firestorm shines. The mod has not noticed you yet and they will either be walking to form a group or talking in a group. When they walk the best you can get is 3 together, and it takes some timing, but if they are talking you might get 4 or 5.

Fire a spaced apart shot or two quickly into the mob and activate the bullets. This will usually light 3 or 4 on fire. When this happens they will roll around and stay clumped together they you just fire more shots into the crowd before the fire goes out and they will stay clumped until they burn to death.

Fun times.

@The Sneaky Tiki, sorry for posting in a fairly old post, but the game you're looking for is called Bulletstorm. The remastered edition is called Bulletstorm Bulletclip Edition. I not 100% sure on that, but I think that sounds right.. Definitely check it out.
the Grav-Dart Launcher can be used to fling enemies off of cliffs, while the Firestorm Revolver is great at burning heavy enemies to a complete crisp

I found the firestorm revolver to be great at killing shrouded. They don't take extra damage from head shots and their armor can be a pain to break, but setting them on fire seems to help kill them quick.
Gazerbeam Aug 26, 2019 @ 11:43pm
The grav dart gun is very useful against immortal shrouded on nightmare mode. Because you will run out of rockets. You can tag 2 or more (at one time) with the grav dart and launch them straight up into the air and they will gib when they come back down to earth.
