Save Files All Corrupted by Older Save?

I played the game for a few hours this evening. I had completed most or all of the Wetlands region and was following the scientist quest into the Dune Sea. I did a few activities in that area, made a manual save overriding one of my previous files, and closed the game. I booted the game back up a few hours later, clicked "Continue", and the game loaded me into the Space Center, with virtually no progress from the last couple of play sessions. Almost no progress in the Wetlands, and I've never even been to the Dune Sea. All of the latest save files and autosaves seem to have become copies of this outdated save file. I've checked all save files and they all load up to either this point, or one further back. This has effectively killed about 5 hours of progress.

I looked at the save folder, and the only other thing there is a backup folder with identical save files to the main ones.

Did you play on the same pc while not syncing with steam cloud at the end while having it active? (This might cause steam to override your newest saves with the ones from the cloud when it detects a difference)

I've only been playing on one PC, I haven't touched the game when not online, and I haven't changed any cloud syncing options.

I don't think it's a syncing issue because all of the save files have different date/time stamps (the last one is stamped with the time when I last stopped playing), but all have the exact same playtime now and load into the same point in the game. I would think that if the files were overridden by syncing they'd likely have the original date/time stamps, or at least new ones for the current time?

If different saves all seem to have the same save state its not a sync issue and something definetly borked during the saving process. I would advise you to reach out to the devs on the official forums for any hope of salvaging the save.

Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of. Pretty sure my progress is hosed at this point. Will likely shelve the game for a month or two and hope that they fix the huge list of bugs. Took your advice and posted on the official support board (didn't even think to do that since most games don't even have those anymore lol). I appreciate your consideration

yes this is a brilliant idea. Why dont you write to the devs of the game and ask them if they could recover your save for you??

Devs can edit save for testing purpose and enable different worldstate. It isnt far fetched to think they could make one relatively close to where he was/what he had.

But thank you for demonstrating your poor knowledge on the matter.

Its sad that you are so in need of attention that you seek me out to flame me in other posts and put words in my mouth. You'll notice I said in the hope of and can. Not will be done. But thanks for the harassment/stalking its almost flattering.

It's not harassment. It's me openly ridiculing your idea of contacting the devs to recover a save. It's ridiculous. Do you know who you are talking about? This isn't an indie game..

It is when you come for me in a new thread when I told you I was done in the last one. And again I am done, you clearly are just here in a desperate attempt to humiliate me by blowing out of proportion what I said and to cause a scene. Find a new hobby you are full of yourself and not helpful to anyone in any way in these forums. Goodbye now.
