RAGE 2

Screen Flickering is getting more and more - even with 430.64
I encountered various places where flickering in game can be reproduced except for the flickers that appear randomly throughout the game.

This fliclkering has been double checked on two PC systems - my wife´s and my own.

Both systems are working flawlessly so this stuff is being caused by the game.

Examples would be:

^This is an example I found by accident since it requires focus being pressed and held.

I really hope this will be fixed somehow since it is pretty annoying while playing.

System specs.

My wife: Ryzen 2700X, RTX 2080 Phantom, 16GB RAM, Win10
Mine: i9 9900k, Zotac RTX 2080Ti Extreme Amp Core, 32GB RAM, Win10

Same here I7 5820K, GTX 1080 and Dell S2716DG 144Hz 1440P Gsync monitor? Do you use Gsync too? I'm glad I'm not the only one to have noticed this.

Also got flickering, using a gsync monitor, 2080ti

Did you try a clean driver install and used ddu for a clean deinstall?

My name is Manuel and I am part of the NVIDIA Customer Care team. Please email me screenshots of the in game graphics setting you are using in Rage 2 and also any changes you have made to the NVIDIA Control Panel that you have made from the default settings. Email this to driverfeedback@nvidia.com. If possible, also fill out the driver feedback form so we can match the configuration as close as possible:

Last but not least, can you check if the flicker goes away if you disable in-game SSAO?

No, not having gsync, both my wife and me. Seems the driver might be causing this.

Oh, hi Manuel - I can tell you that there were no changes made to the Nvidia settings except for "Max performance" in power settings.

Using the Ultra preset the game is offering.

I have a 9900k and a 1080ti, Ultra settings, runs fine. I have an RTX 2070, I'm now curious if this might be an RTX issue, I might try installing the 2070 and see if there are any issues. curious

Do the usual though, verify integrity of files, reinstall drivers or even use DDU and perform a clean install

Try older Nvidia drivers I'm using 398.36 on a GTX 1070 and its running great

Not sure if a 2000 series will work on drivers back that far though

Can´t be a 20 series issue since the first answer´s poster is using a 1080 and got the same issues...

Thank you. I am not sure if it is the same flicker but we were able to reproduce a flicker on a competitor card. If it is the same flicker people are seeing, it may or may not be a driver bug. We are still looking into it.

I did some further testing today and the results are....weird.

The flicker in movie 3 and 4 is almost completely gone today for both my wife and me. It only does flicker one or two times when running from inside the cave towards the exit and even this did not appear every time.

The flicker in the background seen two times in movie 6 also went away after I switched SSAO from "Ultra" to "Off" and then back to "Ultra".

This made me think that it actually was an SSAO issue but I found out by accident, when my wife changed a random setting in graphics settings (in the cave location in 3 and 4), the flickering also went away for a short time.

I am really wondering what exactly is causing this.

Last but not least I had a crash today for the first time when booting up the game :

I got the same flickering problems, sometimes its there and sometimes its gone, i think it has to do something with shadows in this game or the latest nvidia drivers.

For anyone who reads this thread and may still have this problem:

Just started playing Rage 2 using Xbox Game Pass for PC and have the same problem on an AMD RX 580. Difference is that the flickering changed all the colors momentarily.
Changing the refresh rate to my monitor's refresh rate of 75 (it was 50 in the settings by default) and turning on V-Sync fixed the problem for me.

Hey there, i just got a brand new computer and i have all current Nvidia Drivers and a fresh Win10 install BUT i got some weird geometry pop in and screen flicker where a wild triangle would appear and pop into the screen and i mean, its like half the screen. When i turn its gone.. and i turn back its there. Looks like some sort of culling issue maybe? Not sure..
The thing is all other games (FH4, MetroExodus, AC:O ) run absolutely flawlessly ..

Have you tried enabling Vsync? Seems to be the biggest issue in this game.
Try that and else try fixed Vsync + 60 Hz

Ok after trying many other tips in Internet I fixed for me on RX 5600 XT, I hope works for other people.
-Borderless
-Resolution scale off
-Geometric details Ultra
-Depth of Field off
-Anti-aliasing FXAA
Don't ask me how it works cause I have not clue, I was trying to make the image less blurry and in the process the blinking annoying thing was gone, now playing without problems.
