RAGE 2
shadragon Nov 30, 2019 @ 7:28am
"Press Enter"
Cannot get past the title screen. The game loads fine and I get the various opening logos and warnings. Then it goes to an animation loop of game play and it says "Press Enter" at the bottom of the screen.

No matter what I press, nothing happens. Tried Enter, Space and ESC, plus every other key multiple times.

Bought the game yesterday and no issues on the install.
Used Steam to scan files for issues, none seen.
Video drivers at latest release.
Ran Rage 2 as Administrator
Firewall allows public and private traffic.

Hardware is a Threadripper and TitanXP running off a M.3 SSD. Performance is not an issue.

Anyone else seen this?

are you guys running in full screen or full screen windowed? something might be deselecting the game causing it to lose focus which interrupts the keyboard / mouse control

Solved: Right click on the game and select Properties. Click on Set Launch Options and type "windowed" (no quotes) into the box. Save and run the game. Enter will now work.

Be warned, the game is pretty meh. Was disappointed once I got in. CTRL key combos to do things and cannot change the map. Dumb.

try alt-tabbing to the game. might work.

also could be a firewall window popped up in the background, even if you allowed it already.

It happened to me last night, first time in many starts.

I hit CTRL + ALT + DEL and a blue screen will appear with a small Window's menu with things like 'Sign Out' etc. I hit cancel and it did a crash dump and allowed me to send an error report to Bethesda/Steam or whoever.

That I did and it closed Steam down and all that was needed then was re-start Steam and I was able to load and start the game without problems.

This might be worth a try.

I have all tried all the fixes above...added "windowed" to the command line, checked for firewall issues (there are none), I even got the crash error once and sent that in. I have verified the files through steam, rebooted my PC several times, I even stopped all non essential services on my PC and still cannot "Press Enter" after the game startup graphics. Sad really, I was looking forward to playing this game. Any ideas? I really don't want to have to work on getting a refund.

My only thought is that I have a 3-screen system and for some reason the "Windowed" command line tag isn't working right or something. But that is the only thing I can think of. Again, any ideas?

Most of the game can be completed just fine without the CTRL key combo, they are optional except for during the starting tutorial and during the time ya unlock them at the arks

Played more than 10 hours, no problem - crash at all. Today the game frozen - stuck at ingame - character upgrade menus, resarted the pc. Then having "Rage 2 stopped working" error message at every attempt, after "Press Enter". Tried every suggestion, even updated Nvidia drivers today. And my hdd doesnt have "amd64vdl.dll to delete. Any tips - help aprreciated, thanks all in advance.

Same for me as Modestie. Gets to the Main Menu screen and freezes. Then kicks to desktop with the error report. Game worked fine last night. What happened?

This is not a corrupt game files issue or a video driver issue. The developers f@cked up. Because the game is trying to connect to a server and crashes on time out instead of giving an error message thast the server is not available.. You have to disconnect your network cable or use the cmd window >> ipconfig /release to disable the network connection and the game will start fine. ipconfig /renew to refresh your ip adress and enable the netwrok connection. Then the game will lock up and crash again. So use ipconfig /release or disconnect network cable if you want to play the game. Probably a store issue. Going offline does not work. There has to be no network connection for the game to stop freezing in the [ENTER] menu.

This is actually the first response. So bad that I already got a refund from steam, as I guess so many others did.

i have been playing for over an hour without an issue. offline did not work for me. This did :

1 open cmd window through start menu and do ipconfig /release to disable network connection
2 start the game and load the save game
3 alt +tab
4 do ipconfig /renew to restore network connection
5 alt+tab or just go back to the game.
and everything will continue to work fine and you will have a functional network connection.
