Nvidia control panel > display > adjust desktop size and position:
Set these settings for scaling:
No scaling
Perform scaling on the GPU
TICK the box for 'override the scaling mode set by games and programs'
(possibly relevant as both vulkan games, could be a vulkan API bug)
Glad it worked though!
Edit: Oh, turned out that in my case the black screen was caused by MSI Afterburner's overlay. Game runs great after disabling it ... until it crashes once in a while, so far mainly in the cut scenes at the end of the first level (which is as far as I played.). Lowering settings let me finish the level and start the new one, so maybe it was running into my 1050 ti's 4GB VRAM cap. Wish I could get Afterburner Overlay working to know for sure...
