And yeah, some of the crashes seem to happen more often in the main menu of all things, not sure if that's a placebo effect of the crashes or a legitimate thing on my end, but others seem to confirm my assumption.

You are welcome to attempt the following troubleshooting to see if it helps going forwarcd however, should the issue persist we do not have additional solutions that we can offer.
----- Run the game as Administrator -----
To run the game as an Administrator:
1. Right click the game in your Steam Library.
2. Go to Properties then the Local Files tab.
3. Click Browse Local Files.
4. Locate the game executable (the application).
5. Right click it and go to Properties.
6. Click the Compatibility tab.
7. Check the Run this program as an administrator box.
8. Click Apply.
Once you have done this, restart Steam and try launching the game again.
----- Run Steam as Administrator -----
In some cases, running Steam itself in Administrator mode may resolve the issue:
1. Navigate to your Steam install folder (Default: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam).
2. Right click the Steam executable.
3. Follow the above steps to set it to Run as Administrator.
4. Restart Steam.
----- Verify the Integrity of the Game Cache -----
To verify your game cache:
1. Right click the game in your Steam Library.
2. Go to Properties then the Local Files tab.

4. Wait for it to complete.
This should remove any potentially corrupt or broken files and allow the game to run.
----- Disable the Steam Overlay -----
1. Open Steam and click Settings.
2. Select the In-Game Settings tab.

4. Restart Steam and launch the game again.
But not always, exit and cloud sync works as it should half the time.
But, although I should be thankful that, my games progress has always been saved before a crash it's just the most strange thing.
The last time I played was today. For the first time a pop up came and requested to send details of crash/pc. I did so, then it synced as normal. I assume this is new added by devs, crash reporter. It's needed, and I am OK with it for ONE reason. We are given the choice to send or not.
Well, thats how this new crash reporter works. Wouldn't be surprised if there were others, but on the other hand not confident if these codies even would know how to write such telemetry/reports mini apps. Amazing. Good game, but 3rd rate programming as in stability.
IMHO all problems seem technical. No issues with working game play, or art/design. So it's the technical multitude of problems that ruin this game for some/many.
Seems it affect different people/systems in different ways. I just cannot imagine how this kind of thing could happen!
Some games do crash rarely (not Rage 2 - others) for a variety of reasons, but the way things happen in Rage 2 is just boggling the mind.
I've never experienced anything remotely like this. I have over 300 games and been a Steam user for about 9 years. Sure a very few games crash. Most are very stable, Rage 2 is just all over the place.
I just don't know and dread to think of mess the code is in. Different scenarios for, some lose everything. Some lose nothing (like me so far - just luck I guess). And everything in between.
Lost for words really. (Words that would get me banned - plenty of them!!)
Holy cow poo. I am in a very similar situation except I haven't reached the last stage where it crashes BEFORE saving.
Heck, I better hurry up and finish the game - now I feel like I'm living on borrowed time.
It's funny when buffalo respawn dead though. I thought death and respawning were the opposite.
But once it went further, the buffalo fell through the textures, then I did, then I was face to face "outside," the game, floating in space with giant mutant coming after me. It arrived by elevator, which promptly fell through the textures. I died. Such disbelieve my fingers froze on the controller.
You'd think bethesda would have devs working the clock to fix such a major issue, with CTD's plaguing users all around.
It's easily the worst game this year for CTD's, hands down and it's response team has been slow as hell to this issue.
In future, play-test your games on various configs before launching any "AAA" game, because this kind of issue isn't acceptable at all.
I cannot refund the game, and I'm stuck with one that just crashes so many times, effectively making it a digital paperweight.
Spot on true. They probably used no more 3 or 5 desktop systems. Not enough. AAA need a lot of testing on many many configs. They can afford it easily. With confidence I can say this wasn't play tested nearly enough, plus, worst of all, they couldn't have possibly used a lot of setups or they would have picked up the legion of bugs, a fair few people have.
The minimum specs are a joke, unless you don't mind all settings low, low frame rate. Yuck.
We can all tweak and fully utilize whatever resources at hand. Makes a difference. I disk clean and trim daily. Once a week I do a huge maintenance session. As a result my idle desktop cpu usage in task manager details is 1% 99% of it is free, doing nothing.
So we all can and should keep PC in highly optimized state. It helps. But, by far the biggest problem if poor performance is NOT the gamer. Its the coders and testers fault. Stupid engine too.
I hope you get it. Just not right that so many people can't even play at all.
I hope everyone does use that. I have everytime and guess most do too.
Wow, the Devs are going to get a lot of reports. But that's good. Should find out some patterns of why it happens. I believe there is more than one reason, but anyhow it's good to give them the data and carefully check with software (impossible to do manually - there will be so many.)
Then after, some weeks, week, or month the main reasons will be clear, leading to a patch.
At least that's the theory. I don' take anything for granted with this, and wouldn't even be surprised if did nothing about it. But, I do think they are doing something evidenced by the little crash reporter program.
I had my first in game crash today. I have had many on exit. Didn't lose any saves so at least that is good news for most of us. But I read some people have had to restart the game. That is absolutely unacceptable for a AAA game, which was very expensive. Even the sale 50% off, and it's still not a cheap game. Wolf young blood full price is less that Rage 2 50% off offer.
Not sure if that offer is still out, but there will be more.
very well said!!!! I enjoy the hell out of this game, but I have to seldomly play it, due to the crashes i've also been getting alot lately as well, which seems to happen at random times.
I agree also, and how "Jaks" described it is what I am experiencing as well. This REALLY needs to be fixed so I, WE, can go back to enjoying this game. Please Devs...
