Dedicated hotkey for alternate weapon firing
With all the new alternate fire modes being introduced to DRG with the Season 5 overclocks, it is long overdue for the devs to develop a better hockey system. The current "press reload to do something not reload related" is clunky, unintuitive, and leads to the player fighting with the controls for no good reason.

The solution is simple: Add a new hotkey for activating a weapons alternate function, bound by default to the R key. That way, the control scheme would remain the same by default, as to not confuse new players. This hockey could then be rebound to any other option, separating it from the reload button and giving the player much more control over the relevant weapons. This new hotkey would also be available on controller, in case anyone wants to overload a different key.

Now, how many weapons would this apply to?

- Minigun Rotary Overclock
- Cryo Cannon Snowball Overclock
- Cryo Cannon Ice Spear Overclock
- Hurricane Cluster Missile Overclock
- Flamethrower Fire Wave Overclock
- Drak Manual Overheat Upgrade
- Wave Cooker tier 4 Uogrades

While this isn't a large portion of all overclocks, it still is signifigant enough to deserve better QoL.

Tiny spelling error: 'hockey' in the title should be 'hotkey'. :)

Also, yes please. Sounds like a good idea.

Yes please.

A very minor detail is that this (in theory) should also allow you to see the Wave Cooker's "inspect" animation without needing to unequip the T4 upgrades.

The only problem would be finding an acceptable key to bind it to.

I agree with everything OP says and I also think that would be a pretty darn good solution.

You could bind it to Q or a mouse thumb button.
I feel like that would work well for most people (personally I have grenades on the thumb button so I would probably put it on Q).

Q is already bound to swap to last weapon.

I don't use that though.

But some people do. It's a function that exists and shouldn't be removed for the sake of this feature.

If somebody chooses to rebind that particular function to something else and bind "alternate fire" in its stead then it's their choice though. :)

But what should alt fire be bound to by default?

If it cannot be bound to the same key as another function (such as R), then I am not sure.

strong agree
this feature is long, long overdue at this point. it's baffling to me that GSG would introduce so many new overclocks with alternate firing modes when it's been known for years that the lack of a dedicated altfire key makes these kinds of builds extremely awkward to use

Most important part of the suggestion lol

By default it would also be bound to R, so the new system initially functions exactly the same as the current system and there are no conflicts except the existing ones.

Then, anyone who wants more control could just rebind the alt fire from R to whatever button is more convenient or unused. For example, I would personally rebind it to an unused mouse button on my gaming mouse.

Please that would be such a huge improvement

Controller parity has never made sense to me as an reason not to in this game

Isn't the problem caused by the regrettable fact console players exist and their controllers are all out of unmapped buttons? And devs don't want to support separate control schemes for separate platforms.
