Proximity Chat?
Recently playing a lot of game with proximity based VOIP, a good example of it is Lethal Company. I thought DRG has a perfect environment for proximity chat. The echo in the cave, the doppler effect when people screaming while falling...

The game is designed around teamwork and communication. Making that harder for immersion purposes would harm the teamplay (and give even less of a reason to use voice chat than there already is).

Most people use text chat anyway. Considering how rare voice chat is, I wouldn't be opposed to it being an option or part of some Mission Mutator.

Alone, the change isn't enough to actually provoke resistance, but paired with something interesting, it could be fun.

That's a good point, perhaps can be solved by having two channel, one is radio, one is local proximity. Like how Squad did their VOIP, I just really liked this hardcore mining theme of the DRG, and I would enjoy more with immersive audio and team communication.

Would be a cool option for private lobbies, maybe as a mod; but that's the only way I see it working realistically.

I think it would be a nice touch, but with walkie talkie.

Like, use Radio fx and distortion for long distance, and original voice with reverb for close distance.
