New DRG title, play as Mission Control
Indirect control of one or several groups of pesky miners in a vein of Majesty or more recent Mech Engineer. Watch for swarms. Aim and drop supplies and equipment.
Sanity meter to withstand gold and mushroom pings.
Cozy job (it's not).

Some kind of tactical strategy game?

an XCOM-style DRG game where you're controlling the dwarves from a top-down perspective would be sick as hell

if they're willing to make something as random as a vampire survivors clone they may as well do this too

The game The Last Spell does sick tactical top-down hero-based horde combat, taking inspiration from that game would be good. Then they'd have fully procedural maps, mining resources, maybe even a full destructible 3D environment unlike DRG: Survivor.

Management simulator. :redbeard: :pickax: :nitra:

Maintain dwarf morale. Do you allow them to ping gold and mushrooms but risk them getting distracted? (the longer you let them do it, the better for morale) Do you allow them to drink beer but risk them being drunk on mission? Do you encourage them to rescue Doretta but risk extraction?

Hard choices. Do you send Driller and Scout on same mission to speed it up, but risk the Scout falling prey to the Driller's C4? Do you take the risk of giving Fat Boy to the Engineer for swarm clear but risk them all getting nuked?

Constantly stay vigilant for swarms. The sooner the you notify the dwarves, the better chance they have.

With low morale, the dwarves work slower and have an increased risk of friendly fire and panic during swarms. Panic may lead dwarves to abandoning one another which in turn plummets the morale severely and results in a vicious loop.

Do you demand them to work faster, resulting in higher effectiveness but also higher chance for mistakes or recklessness?

Face the pressure coming from the upper management and make those dwarves reach the quotas or you are fired.

They might as well make the board game into a pc game then, since its basicaly that but simplified. Would save dev resources and give players a chance to play the boardgame who cant or wont otherwise.

Making digital adaptations of physical board/card games seems to becoming more and more popular. I like digital board games.

I think I've said it before, but a standalone expansion VR title, where you play as Mission Control for an actual team. Your success is entirely dependent on how well they do, and your duties include:
  • Drinking coffee, maybe with some additives to get you through dealing with these morons.
  • Watching the team bumble around via helmet/bodycams and equipment mounted cameras so you can appropriately reprimand them via radio comms for going the wrong way. AGAIN.
  • Give warnings of incoming swarms and nearby hazards. Or not, if you feel they aren't worth it, that is also an option.
  • Provide Management with status reports, they are offering incentive bonuses for reports on anything unusual, and that's definitely going to be more than this bunch of louts will be worth.
  • Track team ammo usage and send supply pods precisely on the heads of the team members you feel are the most annoying to shut them up for a bit at least.
  • See to it that required equipment pods land in the optimal position for the mission, such as at the bottom of the ravine right next to them.
  • Take temporary direct control over automated units, like Molly, to experience the pure pleasure of pushing a dwarf off a cliff, no that wasn't me, that was Molly's AI in control then, I didn't do anything.
  • If they really are just hopeless, you can send in Rosco, Bosco's bigger brother, to clean up their mess. R&D mentioned something about an unstable power core though, so maybe keep that in mind.
  • If you feel you should throw them a bone (you shouldn't), you can call in a favor with Operations to give them a little more time to reach the drop pod. Just be careful about that button labeled "EMERGENCY LAUNCH OVERRIDE", it's a bit sensitive, and you wouldn't want to leave those sacks of useless meat on the planet, would you? Management did install a safety that keeps it from working until Molly is docked though, there is that I guess.
