Add an ingame option to turn off Volumetric Fog
Greetings Miners!

I'd like to suggest adding a checkbox in the video options to remove the volumetric fog. This may require Unreal to restart to take effect, I'm not sure, but even so it's totally worth the effort.

If you haven't played this game without volumetric fog.... You should. It's really, really great. The lighting in DRG is beautiful and taking away the distance illuminating fog makes light more of a living element of the game and makes Hoxxes a truly terrifying and wondrous place to explore.

I highly encourage everyone to give it a go and ponder on if it adds enough to the game to warrant an in game option for easier access.

To remove volumetric fog, update the engine.ini file in 3 steps;

1.) Navigate to \Steam\steamapps\common\Deep Rock Galactic\FSD\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor

2.) Locate and open Engine.ini in notepad

3.) Find [SystemSettings] and on the line below it add:

r.Fog=0

All done, just save and exit. If you want to turn volumetric fog back on, just come back and remove this line. But you won't want to.

This was suggested to me by a fellow dwarf some time ago. It makes the game a bit harder and it feels and looks soooo good. I've not seen it talked about and I feel anyone who loves this game will find removing volumetric fog an enhancing experience. I personally think that it's a different enough experience to warrant an in game option, and in my wildest dreams GSG feels the same <3

It's come to my attention that There's A Mod For That, it's called Advanced Darkness, so if you don't want to fiddle with .ini files you can try out the mod!

I still think the sheer awesomeness of removing the fog justifies an in game option for people who don't play with mods.

Would definitely try it out, if it were an in-game option.

The darkness seen in some videos showcasing pre-alpha versions of DRG felt really nice.

It's fantastic. It does give it a bit of a different feel to play, and it just showcases the game's look better (in my opinion).

Yeah, it did feel different, especially when couple with the ol pre-alpha caves, which reminded much more of ones you can find on Earth.

Probably made the atmosphere more eerie, especially if playing alone.

This video with timestamp is what I was referring to: https://youtu.be/YE8FD74pyBQ?feature=shared&t=218

Definitely recommend the channel if you enjoy watching past iterations of the game. :)
