Eh. It'd be okay after more important stuff is added, since most people don't give a rat's arse about their character's gender. Also, that would require either extensive voice manipulation and editing making the voices sound unnatural, or fairly expensive voice acting, not to mention all-new models, and making existing models fit onto them. And... *shudder* the fanart.

To be fair, the dwarves and elves we know today largely originated from Tolkien's work.
His work was loosely based off some myths and legend. He invented their history, culture, language, traits, etc. These qualities are often shared in other fantasy works. Warhammer, Warcraft, Dragon Age, they all use the Tolkien inspired races and traits. As far as I know, Hobbits is an entirely original invention.

I wouldn't mind if there's a female cosmetic to every class. Just toss a ponytail/ribbon on them and make a light beard. It's just a cosmetic - people want new hats and beards all the time, so there's no big deal including this too, after the important stuff is done, right? They could even leave the original voice, that would make it damn funny.

Okay I am just going to go with my head cannon and assume that these dwarves are the Terry Pratchett version of dwarves. DRG IS a equal employer. There ARE both male and female dwarves in the game its just very difficult for human players to tell them apart on account of both having equally glorious beards

The developers had this on their roadmap at some point so on their cannon, what we have at the moment is just male dwarfs but you are free to believe what you want, obviously.

It would be nice if such feature returns to the roadmap and gets implemented once the important stuff is done.

There's not a big demand for it. People want the devs to focus on the core game mechanics and not worry about the vanity shop, that's why it was taken off.

But they took it off, which suggests it wasn't definite and/or they're undecided. It does suggest that gender is defined, but I can't agree with your conclusion, it isn't enough to call it definite yet.

It may have been merged into 'more skins' or just general updated vanity.
