This statement is so subjective. There is a huge base of players that enjoy base building in video games, including myself. Base building is a giant selling point for me that I spend money on.

Base building? You need more than a doctor, you need a swift kick in the rear.

This game needs none of it and it doesn't even need it at all... but my interior design addiction demands I be able to redecorate the rig for people to see and praise me for in the minute or so they spend there when they join my hosted game.

Idk about personalized rigs, as in canon we all share and work at the same one.

Some stuff to decorate your bedrooms would be nice though!

To be honest when I first watched the trailer in May 2018, I expected something like this, too. Gather resources, upgrade your forces, while exploring deeper cavities. Face tougher and smarter enemies the more you progress. Find old relics, raise fortresses, kill gigantic monsters in HUUUUGE caves... Something like this.

Turned out the game was less this and more a frentic, chaotic loveable Arcade game which you could pick up and go. Still the game can create some of my most epic game moments. There is a certain simplexity that comes with the incredible concept of DRG.

Don't bind the player to too many rules and restrictions.
Don't force players to read every Wiki article just to stay on track of what's going on in the game.
Give the player a chance and a reason to break through linearity.

I love it.

I don’t really get the hate towards home building and pets and such, but personally I would love features like those. I grew up a Club Penguin kid, and going to other people’s igloos and seeing awesome scenes of tropical islands or medieval castles was one of the best parts of the game.
Sure, maybe it wouldn’t be a good fit for DRG, but I don’t see the harm in it.

Decorating your room or even the RIG for when you are hosting are absolutely brilliant ideas. Don't let any bitter old man tell you otherwise.

Have you not noticed the rather large waste of development spent on the space rig already? Jukeboxes, barrel games, low G button, secret locations, annoying mission control ect. At this stage I feel like it should be expected that there be much more dev time spent there at some point whenever the space rig overhaul is performed.

Upgrading the rig is really the same as giving you a 5th object to buy cosmetics for. It's just more stuff to buy with your minerals, more reason and incentive to do missions and it helps you to easily choose what missions to do based on your lowest resource.

It's EA so I think it's fair to say that could easily change if they chose to. But you could just say that the area is your personal area on the space rig. The space rig could be something massive, having hundreds or thousands of these areas. I mean, I never see any other dwarves that aren't a part of my mission around.

I appreciate some cosmetics but I'd rather they focus on adding to the actual gameplay.
