Can't invite friends or accept invites in-game

Hello friends, first of all I'd like to clarify that I am on the Game Pass version of the game, and while I realize this is Steam, I haven't really been able to get any help from Reddit, or the devs.

Whenever I try to accept an invite, nothing would happen. Also when I would try to invite friends, nothing opens up when I click on the Invite Friends button, and I can't even invite through the game bar as the option is grayed out. I also tried joining my friend through the server list, to no avail. Has anyone else ever had this problem, and if so, have you been able to solve it? Thanks.

Game pass users can connect with other gamepass or xbox one/windows store users. Are those the players you're attempting to connect to?

There is no cross play between systems beyond xbox and windows store.
