vsync locking fps to 138 on 144Hz monitor?
Vsync should lock to the Hz of the monitor. Why is it locking to some arbitrary number? I know the few frames don't matter too much, but it does feel odd that it's 6fps off, does it not?

Vsync locks to a portion of your monitors Hz, if performance isn't good enough.

Ie. On a 60hz display it will drop to 30 if it can't maintain 60.

138 of 144 is a weird number though yes, no clue.

Double buffer vsync halves fps. Which no games (should) use nowadays. Triple buffer syncs to whatever framerate, it works more like a fps limit, just to your monitor's refresh rate.

This reminds me of the really awful vsync implementation in UE3, where it would always lock to 62fps, no matter your monitor Hz, and you had to go into some .ini files and change the fps numbers to your monitor Hz. I seriously hope that's not what's happening here, that would be incredibly annoying, knowing that this broken system is still broken.

I did, it still locks it at 138

I get 160-180fps with vsync and the frame limiter off. Nothing else is affecting the game except the game itself.

Windows can be a pain sometimes. Have you actually checked that windows has your monitor refresh rate set to 144?

Yes. And vsync works properly on most other games. My guess is this is a UE issue, since this smells like the UE3 issue I mentioned before.

if u have a nvidia graphics card just use DDU and clear all ur nvidia data, that should fix it

I see that this thread is ancient, however this just sounds like Nvidia's ultra low latency driver feature. 138 is the cap you get on a 144Hz monitor if you enable ultra low latency alongside Vsync. 75Hz becomes 72 FPS, 240Hz becomes 224 FPS, etc.

There's a reason for this and it has to do with frame pacing inconsistencies and how VRR works. Lots of details on this over at Blurbusters, or Battle(non)sense on Youtube, too much to go into here, but it is intended behavior. If you don't like it disable ultra low latency.

Just commenting for the sake of other readers or people finding this via Google, I'm sure the OP has long since moved on.

You probably had ultra low latency enabled and resetting your drivers returned it to its default setting of off.

Sort of correct. This thread is long before I understood what Nvidia Reflex was, and they had added it to DRG around this time I believe (or I turned it on) and this is what it does. Turning Reflex on causes the game to max out at 138 fps.

Ah, wasn't aware DRG had Reflex at this time, but yeah, Reflex targets the same frame rates.
