I know plenty of people who play solo exclusively and have a great time.
That said, it's definitely a co-op focused game.
So, in conclusion: it can be a good solo game if you really like the game or if you prefer doing thing your way and in your own pace, but it is more entertaining and faster when you're playing it with your friends :)
Mainly the reason I bought the game, aside it being playable offline.
That's also what everyone should do the first times IMO, to get a good idea of how the game works and the different classes and synergy between each of them.
It took me close to 150 hours before discovering mostly every enemies.
Multi=Better
But there's nothing wrong with playing it solo.
The Key to Bosco is:
He gives you many utility functions, which are controlled through the Laser Pointer:
1. Mining hard to reach areas
2. Shining a light on distant areas
3. Targeting a key enemy
4. ROCKETS! (Everything Else is pretty easy, but I often forget this. He has infinite rockets, only limited by a recharge timer. This can save YOUR ammo for crunch time, when you can't get him positioned.)
5. Bosco doesn't increase the difficulty scaling of enemies. Bad Teammates can make a possible mission impossible. It really depends on your experience with people. I personally have had a pretty good time with people, rarely do I find a player who drags us down, but difficulty scaling affects that too. Some people can be great players, but if they bring the wrong loadout on a higher difficulty, they will constantly get downed.
