Why is there still no way to rejoin a mission?

Was doing an Elite Deep Dive today with a great team. Most of the way through mission 3, I hit a lag spike and disconnected.
I was not Steam friends with any of the players in the lobby, so rejoining was just immediately impossible. Why is there no way to rejoin?

You can rejoin, assuming the conditions are met; and there is still a lobby left to join.

If the game is too close to the end you can't rejoin, which is most likely what happened to you.

I don't know, yesterday I crashed mid-game (right at the end of a Core Stone event), and when I relaunched Deep Rock Galactic, I was prompted to rejoin, which I did, and it worked fine. I was not friend with anyone or anything.

Could also be that the hosts computer went bonkers and there was nothing left to rejoin.

usually when you DC or crash it gives you the "last session ended abruptly. attempt to rejoin?" prompt
