Invite Friends with C Button, Does Nothing

Trying to invite a friend and I see the C - Invite Friends on the screen. Ya, it does nothing. Just nothing. How am I supposed to invite my friends if pressing C does jack squat?

Shift-tab and right click on your friends to send them an invite.

Have your friends right click your profile from the friend list to join game.

Create a game invite on Discord when your lobby is open that people can use to join.

Ah ok, that's likely my problem then as I have the Steam overlay turned off, so if C is meant to bring up that overlay it's probably just doing nothing instead.
