Genuinely shameful on GSGs part (they pick the mods for mod.io) and i do not think i will be supporting them on further games. Especially considering that drg is very barebones in the first place.

Yikes, that sucks. Shame to hear the poor moderation on the Discord server has leaked into more important places like the modding scene. GSG should really address this.

To play the devil's advocate, from the rumors I heard, although the modder in question claimed fair use with his alternative version; it was a straight up copy-paste of the same code with comments left by the original author and all.

That said, that's just "word on the street" and I have little evidence to back it up, nor do I know exactly what license ModHub is released under, what governs actual fair use under said license; and whether the modder in question actually violated it.

Just saying, this is a complicated subject.

man, that sucks. that really, really sucks. trumank is one of the GOATs of DRG modding, he created MINT and a bunch of other legendary mods like removeallparticles, build inspector, and most of all sandbox utilities, probably one of the most powerful testing tools the community has

it's easy to blame the moderators on mod.io (especially that wanker goldblade) but frankly the problem here lies with GSG for picking unprofessional moderators and doing nothing to provide support for any aspect of the modding scene (least of all completely ghosting trumank)
yes i know the guy who developed mod support left GSG forever ago. and my point is they need to get someone to actually handle it properly because the current state of the modding scene is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ appalling.

if this is the way things keep going then i seriously think the modding community in general should look to migrating away from mod.io and setting up some kind of community repository for .pak files and manually patching the game via MINT

it's true that unified UI and mod hub were extremely similar in function (and likely their code was too) but they had to be in order for the former to serve the same purpose as the latter. unified UI was posited only as an alternative to mod hub, not a replacement, but it was still taken down regardless

i doubt this has anything to do with "fair use" and is more than likely the admins at mod.io being petty. i'm not going to give them the benefit of the doubt knowing their position, and especially not given they chose to delete older versions of mod hub so nobody could access them, not even with MINT
it is not a coincidence that mod hub is built and maintained by the same people who moderate mod.io and oversee mod categorization. personally, i think outright deleting and censoring your competition is a pretty spineless move

remember when mod hub pushed an update that enabled you to run 4+ player lobbies with no approved mods? and all the times it's been "updated" only to break and leave a bunch of mods that depend on it broken by extension? that's why unified UI exists

I agree in spirit, which is why I termed it "playing the devil's advocate"; I guess what I'm trying to say is that he may have indeed broken a rule of some sort.

Which, while I agree with his intentions, and would have gladly used his alternate version; rules are rules.

The sad truth, is that we will prolly never know the entire story.

hey sorry this is unrelated to the OP but i wanted to ask, did PDRG prune their member list recently? i had an alt in there to lurk for .pak files (i have zero desire to engage with their community) that got kicked suddenly for no reason - i had never even said anything there on that alt

The only glimmer of good from this situation, is gsg HOPEFULLY seeing this and finally sitting down and taking time to give us an easier time to sideload mods without the need for modio integration at this point (whether it's with mint or something else), otherwise it's gonna fall unto the actual modders to fix this ♥♥♥♥ themselves (which it shouldn't be their responsibility)

This site's handling of mods (approval, removal, etc...) has been absolutely ATROCIOUS for the last few years and I seriously don't understand why gsg let's it get this bad besides some lazy ass "teehee not many people play modded, so oh well!!1 :3" cope. If you're gonna have a part of your game neglected to high hell either fix it or let someone else, don't pull a TF2 like with valve and just let it rot because "reasons"
