The game scales based on the amount of players. When solo, you're also accompanied by a flying robot that will help with fighting, digging, carrying, some objectives, and limited revives for you per mission.
Most players get hundreds of hours from the gameplay loop alone. Since its a horde shooter with objectives. Multiple mission types, modifiers that change missions, and random generated caves.
Single player has all the same content but no player interaction, you get a little robot that helps you instead. But that does mean you are missing out on synergies that other players playing other classes might provide. Like with the support tools. Beond that its fully playable and fun solo.
Most of the time you can just host the particular mission you want/need and people will drop into your game. Community is pretty much 99%+ positive at least.
I'd certainly recommend playing some solo missions first, so you at least have some idea of how to use your weapons and tools.
Except in this game. Because this game is a legit 9/10 as a co-op game. It is 6/10 or so solo.
You should get it anyway, because speaking as someone who generally despises co-op games and multiplayer in general, this game is so well-made it's become my most played game of all time.
Depending on why you play solo at first will make the difference I think.
For the story, time management, go at your own pace and how you want to complete the missions, bad experience with co-op and a lot more of course.
I also play mostly solo, not really for the stories and campaigns but to go at my own pace and the way I want.
It took me around 80 hours of playtime during the holidays to start feeling the game repetitive. But there is a lot of content, I might have still some enemies that I haven't seen still, without talking about the previous Battlepass' Seasons that can be grinded for cosmetics and weapon skins and the limitation of ways to acquire the Items to boost weapons.
The game is also designed around the character classes. You can play whatever class you want, but some classes are better in some scenarios than others. So often mixing 2+ classes is a definitive advantage and can add a lot to the gameplay possibilities when played with others.
Yeah, I agree mostly.
The Co-op with random is really random. Like in most games.
Usually the most annoying thing is the "Disconnection" since it's Peer2Peer (Server Hosted by a Player), then it would be any vital class to a moment not playing its role (yeah, you Scout sparing flares for the after party).
Some are just playing co-op to just not feel alone or being carried for sure.
The 2 hours refund Steam's policy wasn't enough for me at all.
There is a lot to the game and learning the basics while doing the tutorial, trying the classes and reading the information was just too much for that time lapse IMO.
15 mins missions ? You're a grinder. For me the firsts few missions were taking closer to 45-60mins since I was exploring, learning and probably Mining too much without knowing that when our character says "I'm full", he doesn't mean Full inventory, but Full of that specific mineral. So I was depositing way more often than now.
Looting less minerals by petting the Lootbugs instead of killing them too lol.
It's sad that it can be true and even with high level players.
But on Haz 3 and above, I think it's somewhat rare. Unless maybe you can't really handle it in solo yourself, then yeah, someone that isn't giving 100% will be a possible cause of failure.
At some point, I feel that managing Bosco behaviours are more in my way sometimes than the mule ;)
Bosco is terrible at protecting Doretta (Drilldozer), if you Hack a patrol bot or Bet-C, you'll notice that they are more aggressive and seems to have a better vision than Bosco that still stare at something. Often I'm expecting him to alert me, but he's on energy saving mode or something.
Bosco is best boy (except when you tell him to shoot a missile and he derps out)
on a side note, ive played Payday 2 (which has a similar structure gameplay-wise) for about 300 hours solo, so... theres that too i guess...
