Season 5 OC discussion thread
Just a thread simply for discussing S5 OCs.

=== Rotary OverDrive ===
Rotary Overdrive is amazing. Been running it 2x111/3x111 (thinking of swapping to T4b). But ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ eats up ammo so fast as I usually ended up spending 1/3-1/2 of my ammo on a single wave; having the flexibility of being able to time Aggressive Venting, spam Aggressive Venting, shorten Aggressive Venting cooldown or just indefinitely keep heat low for an extended period of time.

It's a nice middle ground between Burning Hell and generic green OC minigun builds.

=== SMRT Trigger OS ===
Feels pretty great with 21312 (I need to experiment with T5b). It's plays like a faster Executioner. There are a couple of problems when compared to other OCs (Seeker/ABM/Executioner/Eraser):

- T4B eats up so much ammo that it's just not worth taking (maybe with a SMRT build with a wider lens).
- YOU HAVE EXTREMELY LIMITED USE OF THE BULLET LINE.

The "instant lock/fire" nature means you can't fully utilize the bullet line to curve bullets to hit targets behind obstacles or to hit weakpoints like you are normally used to. It's perfectly serviceable against grunts. However it destroys spitters, spreaders and mactera (assuming they aren't behind an object) extremely quickly; You see it? It's dead with no thought put into it.

Of the games I've played with it, I had been locking onto targets, but kept hitting terrain that was in front of the target. Especially irritating against Spreaders. So you really have to care more about your position in order to not hit terrain.

=== Hyperalloy Assembly ===
CS gun. Huge recoil. Does lots of damage against weakpoints. Not much to say about it. Just make a weakpoint build and get used to the really strong kick (even with the recoil mod). Fairly boring. Can't say much about it.

Mortar Rounds is amazing. Ofc sucks at close range since well... explosives. But the aoe clear is pretty awesome.. the dmg is good.. it's a more fun alternative to neurotoxin since positioning actually matters. Probably my new favourite gunner OC.

Marked for Death is meh. Not much to say there. Used it once and that was it. Might be nice for H5+ with actual teamwork but for everything below where stuff dies pretty fast anyway.. it's pretty ♥♥♥♥. That increased focus shot ammo cost killed it.

I got the flamethrower overclock first and it has been a funky experience. So either a setting I turned off in the files or just a quirk of using a craptop, I can’t actually see the fireballs.

I was thinking that I could use it as a ranged ignition tool, as far as I can tell this OC doesn’t have any more range than base, it covers the floor and only the floor with flames (rip drillavator,) might was well use sticky flames for that but damn it can heat an oppressor in the blink of an eye. It also can spawn flames through Doretta like inferno breach but you have to be standing kind of close.

It’s also tricky to maintain full ammo, or it might of been PE being weirdly nitra dry. The situation might improve as I find more worthwhile situations to fireball.

CRSPR Flamethrower: Scorching Tide is great for quickly taking out Pretorians. Won't kill them instantly on Hazard 5, but you can finish them off quickly afterwards. I just use the regular flames for the "trash" mobs and save the tide attack for strong, high priority targets. Haven't had problems running out of ammo.

I've been really enjoying Pump Action. Small clip size, but one shot will take care of most things. With the built in blowthrough it's pretty fun, and my new go-to Warthog overclock.

Hyperalloy Assembly is also my new favorite for my SMG focused build. The recoil isn't that bad (especially if you burst fire like I do), and the weakpoint damage boost makes you shred praetorians, which were previously a problem for that loadout.

I tried Mortar Rounds. It's not bad, it's just too dangerous for me to use.

SMRT Targeting is not a bad overclock, it's just not a good one either. Too ammo hungry like the rest of the LOK.

Marked for death is nice. Good for hip fire builds that don't want Hipster. Makes tougher enemies die quicker, which is always good.

Haven't tried the others yet. Need to find them first.

Oh? Does it have some sort of shotgun effect to it?

One thing i want to add about CRSPR's new OC is that Scorching Tide can kill nemesis by overhaeting it in two shots, really amazing.

I played with a Scout using Marked for Death. It was nice being able to use Coil Gun to do respectable damage to Oppressors from the front. Also I think a power attack against a MFD Opressor does ~50-60% of its HP.

Gunner OCs are all fun and strong, simple as. Driller's OCs are really good too and I want to try the new sludge pump OC with a flamethrower teammate to see how ridiculous the explosion spam gets. All the scout OCs look quite support-focused so it's dependent on how much the scout wants to lean into that; I see myself at least using marked for death on occasion. Hyperalloy might be my new favorite stubby and pump action feels really good. SMRT trigger OS sucks.

I like how 32211 Combustive goo pairs with 2x121 Heat pipe EPC. Nice mix of applying burn with cheap Nightmares, corosion (single shot and blast alike) or both for eplosions with plenty ammo to go.

Marked for Death M1000 is really strong and is definitely a sleeper pick. I can tell it will be very good for eliminations, but I think it's good enough as an all round support pick that i'll stop using Minimal Clips to use this instead. I've yet to try the Drak and GK2 OCs.

To be fair, you need a very high IQ to understand how to use SMRT trigger.
It's one of the OCs of all time.

I am really liking the driller's sticky ice OC. It has a nice slow as well as feels at least as much damage, if not more than sticky flames. The fact that it freezes to impart the 3x multiplier for teammates makes it a fantastic pick when doing anything defensive like the new drill mission. Coupled with the shatter mod it can just evaporate things. I'm itching to try the new sludge pump OC.

Unfortunately I still haven't seen a machine event since S5 started.

Which nodes did you take? It says 'affected by cooling and damage' but on freeze power 8 it didnt freeze even swarmers. And killed only swarmers barely scratching grunts.
---
Tried it with first freeze and damage nodes. Felt like bulk of sticky ice power comes from those and without any of it will be weak and warm. Huh.

I heard that the new Cryo OC is affected by both T5A and T5B. Can someone confirm that? (Or we'll have to wait a monthweek for the LazyMaybe season breakdown.)

Well yeah it would work with cold radiance because you’re firing the gun.

I don’t know how much freezing power the trail has because targets must be frozen, but it would be cool if fragile worked off of your trail damage.
