There's literally an audio cue when you get close to the crystal, listen to the audio.

The meme might be old but for some reason the pulsating light of my charges attracts the scouts like moths and they refuse to leave the blast radius even if I ping it multiple times.

I never blew one up on purpose but I stopped counting after the 20th random scout decided to commit suicide by driller.
