games semi abandoned
My advice; prepare yourself for the game's eventual sunset. It won't be happening yet, but the earlier you come to accept that it will happen at some point, the better.
All of the following answers are direct quotes from the devs. I have not included the *many* times they've also answered this on stream. Speaking of stream, they're doing another Rogue Core Q&A stream on the 18th, if you prefer to ask them the question yourself and have a direct answer - which will mirror what I'm pasting below.
It's okay for good things to not be intentionally over-complicated, and eventually to have done all there is to be done in a game and enjoy another.
They made me realize how more static enemies improve my experience a lot, and I'd definitely love to see more at some point, despite how it becomes increasingly difficult to introduce new, distinct ones, the more they add.
their language surrounding the future of the game is contradictory. they claim to still love it and want to keep supporting it, but are also making rogue core its own game because DRG's codebase is unworkable for the scope they have for the game. they can't even spare the manpower for maintenance updates on DRG anymore because apparently even that was too much to balance alongside RC's development. their flagship title is now going to be without any updates whatsoever, let alone new content, for well over a year now
tbh it's fair enough, i fully get wanting to move onto new projects instead of just working on the same project for almost a decade. but their words conflict with their intentions. i'd rather they just rip the bandaid off and announce the end of DRG's development, rather than claim they want to keep supporting DRG without actually supporting DRG
Would it make sense to say " Nope, we're done with DRG ", when they really aren't?
No, it really isn't.
Code was only ever one part of it, and they've answered that many times already but keep on cherry picking information when it's convenient for you.
The maintenance updates caused delay (because they spent too much time on it and it grew bigger than they were expecting) - delay they have to account for when developping RC, and which are part of the reason they are not making maintenance updates for S5.
If they don't care for DRG anymore, why bother making maintenance updates to begin with?
Wasn't really a problem before and it's not going to be a problem now either.
They won't because it's not their intention but you're somehow really obsessed with this idea, to the point you seem to think they're lying for literally no reason.
It's been stated many times before that money was not an issue with updates or content addition. If they really needed more, they could simply create a paid for expansion.
It's a question of coding: Can the game sustain it?
again, context is key here. if they came out and said "we're not actively working on DRG anymore, we'll just update it when we feel like" then that's totally fair. in fact, i'd rather they do that for a variety of reasons
but that's not been their attitude. they've just given us a lot of mixed signals where they claim to still love DRG and want to support it indefinitely but also want to start new projects and do other stuff. either one of those paths is valid but it just can't be both, it's inherently contradictory
hey man thanks for all the clown awards, i bought myself a cool new steam deck intro movie thanks to you
