I've been a fan of the Stubby ever since I first unlocked it. I agree that all Engineer primaries are somewhat underwhelming, but the Stubby seems very consistent to me across the board. I don't spec it for electricity at all and instead use it as a straight-up reliable automatic weapon.

I were about to defend the engie boy, but then I read smart riffle...

The only gun I use on him...

You are right. The other guns are nothing in comparison in my humbe oppinion.

Electricity rocks, but i agree, engi primaries are underwhelming, guess its to make up for their heavies.

The SMG can be good if you build it right, the smart rifle is op as hell and the shotgun is by far the worst gun in the game, That being said Engi is by far the most powerful class in the game.

Stubby: well it mostly works. Recoil is a bit of a bummer, and recoil control is harder than it needs to be because it stops pulling up instead of being a continual push.

Warthog: will see you through hell and back. Quite possibly the best gun in the game.

LOK-1: the meme option. If it looks dumb to you, it is. HOWEVER. It can be tuned into a second grenade launcher to compliment your other grenade launcher. That one particular build is extremely powerful and solves practical problems. The only downside is it can't interact with your sentry guns in any way. And sentry guns are the real primary.

I ran stubby for ages, then tried shotgun because someone was praising some OC, I didn't like the OC but fell in love with turret ship instead. Never like the smart rifle much.

Engineer's primaries are weaker compared to most other classes because so much strength is in his secondaries.

Engineer undisputed swarm clear king. The secret? Fallout from fat boy counts toward engi kills even if someone else is shooting the dead man walking bugs.
That's how Engis rake in 1500+ frags.

Engi + gunner = power extreme, however. They just work together so well. Other classes don't play nice with a team. Driller is sigma grind Chad and Scout is an Scout.

been running primarily cycle overload and turret whip on my warthog on my engie for more than half a year by now, fighting alongside a shredder swarm at melee range feels good

MPA, compact mags, cycle overload, all good choices. Turret whip borderline mandatory. Never fall for the mini-shells or stunner meme.

None of Engie's weapons suck. They're all well-rounded... Unless you are comparing to the specialized AoE/DPS monsters in the secondary slot which are also a part of his kit. Then you have turrets and grenades.

Every piece of Engie's kit is a weapon and is easily to utilize to its fullet, so if you play well with Engie and use every bit of your kit, your primary weapon is a smaller fraction of your power compared to other classes. (Driller has the second most weaponized kit, but it's not purely weaponized because of the utility... and he's unable to multi-task his kit.)

If you think your primary sucks, swap out the secondary weapon/build.
