Rogue Core is (basically) DRG II.
...even if the recycled assets, animations, graphics and (maybe the whole game?) from DRG makes me feel a bit ill, but I'll take it.

It does look like it because of the DRG assets we are using for the prototype pre-alpha, since that makes development much faster.

However I think that once we start updating all the assets with new ones and such you'll see the differences shine through. The thing about open development is that you see all the unfinished, rough stuff, and there's still a lot of things that we are adding.

It's still in pre-alpha. Nothing you saw in that trailer was final.

It's a spin off, not a sequel.

As said above, none of those assets are final; they are using them for prototyping because it's easier.

You've got to be really pure to believe on it, but you do you.

"It's basically DRG II" implies its very similar, not a sequel. Even then, the whole thing "screams" DRG II.

If you think the game has already finished graphical development before it even left pre-alpha, you do you. That's not how it works though. DRG was still getting visual updates and overhauls years into early access.

If you're not gonna belive what the devs literally say in black and white, why are you here?

I wouldn't play a game if I had that little trust in its devs.

So OP, are you ignorant or trolling/baiting?

If trolling/baiting, then just try to come up with something new or original.

If you're just ignorant and managed to miss the PRE-ALPHA and PLACEHOLDER ASSET-texts, you can re-.watch the TEASER and maybe learn something.

Either way, just bugger off. People like you are getting very tiresome.

ps. I'll accept the clowns this time so Chibbity does not get overwhelmed.

And even if they did re-use assets, what's the big problem with that? Why reinvent the wheel? Why spend extra time making an exact clone of an APD model to use for the game's solo companion when you already have an APD model of ideal quality? All it does is allow them to make the game faster and focus more on the gameplay.

I'll give you the copy-pasted answer from a dev today about Rogue Core

"The fact is, there is no reason to do this, technologically speaking. You can just bootstrap one system over another depending on the game mode."

In a perfect world there wouldn't be, but there actually is. DRG has evolved into a massive beast and all the systems are intertwined. As the game has grown, so has the scope, to the extent that adding something like new primary weapons is a gigantic task, as that means 4 weapons x 6-8 overclocks and 4 x 12 modifications + 4 x 17 frameworks, not to mention the paintjobs that has to fit. We've shaped the game as we've gone along, and that has allowed us to make a better game that aiming at a goal set years earlier. The cost has been technical debt, and interesting, but probably a less modular/optimal framework to work within.

While Rogue Core has DRG DNA, it's not DRG and not just a game mode. It's a new loop, with new systems, potentially a lot more classes and old and weapons that you pick up during a run that aren't class specific. It's not a deep dive with roguelike elements at all. It might not be for people who like DRG, and that's fine. It might appeal to people that doesn't like DRG, and that's fine too. Point it that it's related, but significantly far removed from the original concept, and it deserves it's own shell, and not being tagged onto something that is great on it's own. We're very happy with how DRG has turned out, and once we have Rogue Core in a place where we want it, we'll look at what the future for DRG holds.

I don't get the setting of rouge core, all mining operations on hoxxes have gone dark and the answer is to send 4 dwarves with pea shooter pistols and telling them to upgrade on the way? a company obsessed with money sending the z team with no prepared gear to a planet to protect their most precious asset is something that's supposed to resonate?

Even by todays hyper-capitalist standards that doesn't pass as believable, at the very least they'd send 1000 meat packets instead of just 4.

Why are you expecting a completely fictional universe to be realistic, exactly ?

A bit of world building can help keeping the player interested.

Granted, in that case, gameplay limitations take priority.

Borderlands games pretty much all look and play the same (after the first anyways), and both Half Life 2 and Portal 2 were made in the same engine and share worlds/aesthetics.

I don't see people complaining about how any of these games are knock offs of each other.

Just because something is made in the same engine with similar aesthetics doesn't mean it can't play completely differently. Let's maybe wait for the game to come out first before jumping to conclusions?

Woah, woah, woah.

We don't take kindly to that kind of reasonable level headed thinking around here mate.
