How to deal with Shredders?
These things are

1) Small targets
2) Deal relatively major damage (More than you would expect from their appearance for sure)
3) Come in multiple groups and attack you from every angle
4) Very quick, coupled with how small they are it can be hard to kill
5) Are absolutely relentless
6) Hardly ever seem to miss, their attacks seem undodgeable
7) They generally spawn from Patrol Bots, who are quite a pain in their own right, and will not hesitate to keep attacking you ALONG with the 4751651 Shredders it just spawned

They seem borderline Overpowered for what is meant to be a common minor enemy tbh but then again I am only a newbie soooo..

Is there some sort of strategy to deal with them? Aside from just killing them ASAP I mean.

What build are you using? Just a high speed weapon always works for me. The scout plasma rifle, the drillers wave cooker, engie's lok-1 have no problems, but that's just what I use.

Shoot them, or pickaxe. Or even grenade depending on which one you're using.

Flamethrower and wave cooker are especially effective, engi's turrets will deal with them, autocannon or shield + pickaxe, plasma carbine or IFG on scout.

Any weapon really if your aim is good enough, otherwise AoE.

Just the Default Gunner loadout for now. I am only just now in the process of unlocking a new weapon, there are no overclock available for my current ones (IF I understand this system right)

Normal pickaxe hit one shot shredders.

Also, the minigun is okay at dispatching them. You can easily dodge their attack, but you must be on the move. Basically, the shredders will follow you until they get close, and then they will lock into place before lunging forward. If you're running away, you'll always dodge the hit. If you're not running, don't bother with dodging, you won't be able to. Wack them with a pickaxe instead. Or shoot them, works well too.
Autocannon if you catch them near a cave surface. Hurricanes high accuracy and AoE will help. Coil gun works wonders on them. AoE bulldog magic bullets works well too.

As Engi, bring them to your sentries or quickly place one to deal with them. A solid hit with the grenade launcher or plasma cutter should do the trick to whittle down the swarm.
As Gunner, the primary should suffice.
As Driller, flamethrower or freezegun should be able to deal with them, otherwise a wellplaced plasma shot with TCF should give some nice aoe.
As Scout, keep your distance and pick them off with your primary, or use shotgun with plenty spread to hopefully pick some off.

Lastly, the pickaxe is good at dealing with a small swarm will do just fine, as they go down in one melee hit.

C4. It's the only way to be sure. Make sure you hold it in your left hand facing away from you when you press the detonator. Bad things happen if it's pointed towards you.

More seriously, some loadouts are just bad against them. If you are too specialised then you need to work with your teammates. And C4.

Politely ask your driller to warm them up a little.
