Does "Corporate marine" helmet refer to anything?
Just wondering. I have a strong feeling I've seen this thing before, but if I think about it, its just the cliche spacemarine trooper helmet from some overly badass movie or game.

Does it refer to anything in particular?

I think it's just supposed to be an amalgamation of every generic sci-fi helmet ever basically.

However if I had to pick the closest thing I would say Storm trooper/Clone trooper helmet from Star Wars.

They both have a fairly aggressive looking slit visor, and big chonky rebreathers on the side.

The flavor text also mentions the "Outer Rim" which is a place featured in Star Wars as well.

"Grim and infamous along the Outer Rim."

Yeah, same thoughts.

Ok, after you edited the thing it looks way too deep even for deep rock XD
But thanks. Never watched any of the star wars movies and dont want to, but helmet looks preety neat. I was giving self an explanation of DRG hiring merecenaries from other companies, and those send their marines to help, so sometimes you encounter them. Also, those are dwarves somehow.

(Also, only thing that looks good with Mk5 engi suit in my humble opinion)

Yeah, the fact that it's called the "Corporate Marine" helmet makes me think DRG has an actual military arm of service, out there doing battle with space Elves or space Orcs along the outer rim.

The helmet is cool, but it's always been way too big. Compare it to some of the other helmets and it's absurdly huge.

I always figured they'd scale it down at some point so it fits in better, but at this point it being awkwardly large has become something of a meme I guess?

Its good its so big, imho. Its, like, one of a few things to match giant Driller's armor and Engineer's tech on Mk5. I like that the game has a choice of a big upscaled helmet for big armor.

Sad it clips with Gunner's Mk4 suit collar, but slit helmet fits it so good, I think those were made for each other.

So the fact that its THE SAME HELMET as the ones you find to locate the wear's remains means very little to you?

Gentlemen, the truth is revealed. Those corp. marines are not tough enough to survive in Hoxxes and DRG hires them for extra loot that they bring along.

yknow that actually kinda makes sense weirdly? i can't see deep rock galactic being involved in direct combat but i can imagine that they're some kind of material or arms supplier for various factions or corporations. it would explain what their cut of the materials is supposed to be used for

having said that, i've never been a fan of the helmet, or any of the edgy scifi armors you can equip (corp. marine, gloomstalker, the dark future dlc etc)
it feels like it clashes majorly with the grimy, working-class aesthetic of the game and the dwarves themselves which is why i prefer the roughneck pack

Mhm, yeah, tihs thing looks a bit edgy, ngl. But its, like, the first hat to cover your full head with? So, I mean, its bound to be used a bit more frequent that anything, I assume.

I, personally, dont understand why dwarves come to Hoxxes (especially some of it's parts) with nothing to protect face with. Stilt helmet + Mk4 gunner armor for life in my case (plus, I still can have a neatly packed beard and moustache behind that collar, still a dwarf). Other classes don't have anything, to protect head and face with, in terms of armor, so, only this helmet and whatever that thing, that has 3 variants on different levels, is. Gloomstalker, right? Looks okay on scout and, to some extent, on driller though.

pretty sure that it's a reference to DOOM, where the marine protagonist is working on behalf of the Union Aerospace Corporation (UAC)

No? Why would it?

We're discussing if the helmet is a reference to something outside DRG.

Besides, the helmet was in the game WAY before it was used as a prop for the lost gear. It was just the most suitable or recognizable generic helmet to use I assume. I suppose if you really wanted to make a connection, it might imply that the dead bodies are corporate marines, and not miners; but since as we know the miners wear the helmet too; that's not very substantial.

the name 'corporate marine' gives off p.m.c vibes.
mining company that's hiring veterans who are proficient with guns and highly stressful situations (hoxxes) and p.m.c. work. ♥♥♥♥ elves.
There's also the beret, the description reads 'A reminder off your service'.

I see it as an army/ private military company helmet. Hey maybe your dwarf took his helmet with him after he finished his service. S̶o̶ ̶w̶h̶y̶ ̶i̶s̶ ̶D̶e̶e̶p̶ ̶R̶o̶c̶k̶ ̶m̶a̶k̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶y̶o̶u̶ ̶p̶a̶y̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶g̶e̶t̶ ̶i̶t̶ ̶b̶a̶c̶k̶?̶

because all damage to the equipment will be deducted from your pay at the end of the month
So, basically, lore-wise, it seems that those helmets belong to marines, DRG hired at some point, who are now fighting on Hoxxes VI with other dwarves. Not all dwarves choose to earn their living fighting bugs and mining, but some of those, who went to military, still are sent to mine stuff. Most likely, the spacemarines, who serve a certain private corporate military organisation; organisation well-known in the game's world, but not exactly known to player.
