Is the Engineer's Stubby SMG the worst gun in the game without overclocks?
Just wanted to see what people think is the worst weapon in-game without overclocks maybe along the lines of the Subata or the Deepcore GK2.

I think smart rifle or coilgun would win the award for worst, but I'm not sure which. Engineer pistol is fine, it's just not as good as it could be. Driller pistol is also fine as long as you're using flamer so you can get volatile bullets. Assault rifle isn't that good but it's still functional.
Smart rifle with no overclocks runs out of ammo instantly and doesn't really do much work even before then, and coilgun without overclocks is just really unimpressive.

Not sure most people really have a frame of reference for this... it's not like people go around with stock guns for very long.

I played a H5 challenge run with each class that had no OCs or upgrades on anything including bosco, and I would say the worst guns are definitely GK2 and sabata. I only tried the warthog but it was straight garbage, I don't imagine the stubby to be much off. Surprisingly (or maybe not), the minigun and flamer were very servicable, beat H5 with driller first try ;)

Coilgun is the worst gun in the game by far. Subata and GK2 are fine, there's just direct upgrades right next to them. Stubby is ehh, never liked it. It does get the job done, it's just not good at anything in particular (except funny meme build that has since been patched out).
Hurricane is still a turd no matter how you slice it into a flowery shape. Poor gunner.

The voltaic smg is pretty good in my opinion

Without OCs?
- Primary: GK2
- Secondary: Colette

I usually use Oversized Magazine on Subata, without it then nothing's really changed. I just have 12/17 rounds per clip rather than 22/27. Lok1, my favorite mod is Eraser only for more locks for dumping ammo into large targets so nothing has really changed there.

Without OCs and mods?
- Primary: Warthog/Stubby
- Secondary: Colette

With OCs and without mods?
- You're a sick dwarf. A freak.
- Primary: GK2
- Secondary: Colette

Collete basically is a worse flamethrower/cryo. It only works when you have everything on it.

for me personally the engineer's stubby is my least favorite weapon overall, I just find it boring to build for, unsatisfying to shoot things with, and RNG based for it's electrical gimmick

mostly same goes for the bread cutter, both of those weapons OCs or not to me just don't find any place in any build of mine

everyone else seems to love it though so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Smart Rifle is my second go to weapon in the whole game. (not using overclocks yet, but I got the explosive shot that triggers an explosion on the last bullet if a target has 3 or more locks but taking away standard damage) I usually play Hazard 4 solo or with a friend.

I can't understand the disregard of the smart rifle to this day.

I do play all 4 classes. Gunner 4 promotions, Engineer/Driller/Scout 1 promotion each. Going for the 2nd promotion for the engineer atm. Low failure rate at hazard 4 using the smart rifle. If I ever fail a solo is because of a mishap of my part.

It is the best weapon to take out rival turrets. It goes very well alongside the Shard Diffractor to take out Pretorians.

Responding to OP:

The Gunner's Coilgun is a weapon I found to be very insufficient.

Overclocks don't do much for the stubby unless you want to use one of those wacky turret lightning builds. I use a clean overclock for 5 more magazine capacity and reduced spread, don't really notice it or think about it because it's a good gun right out of the box. Stubby with electric spread is one of the most well rounded and reliable primaries in the game in my opinion. Not the most powerful, just a solid workhorse. There are definitely some worse weapons as mentioned by others already; GK2, Coilgun, Smart Rifle, Subata

I agree with this. I tried it and like 10-15 minuted into the mission I said "why the hell am I out of ammo?"

it's definitely not the worst but i'd say it's down there. pretty much the best it can do is a full electro support build which isnt fun to play and does piss all damage to enemies who resist electricity

however, i don't feel like it's fair to talk about the worst a gun can be. no one plays a mission with no mods or OCs unless they're brand new or throwing. when you talk about weapon balance, you want to consider a gun's maximum potential and however it can manifest.

take the GK2; a fine weapon in its own right, it does its job well enough. but the best it can do is just "ok" when using BoM or AISE. compare this to the DRAK - which in terms of base stats is matched pretty evenly with the GK2 in terms of damage output and ammo efficiency - but has significantly more powerful build options owing to a superior mod tree and extremely overtuned OCs such as OPA and bouncy. the best the GK2 can do is completely overshadowed by the DRAK's maximum potential

this is why any nerfs the DRAK has received so far haven't put a dent in its use rate, and it remains the uncontested king of scout's primaries. tiny reductions to firing speed and max ammo aren't going to change how DRAK's best options are built and used.

Stubby with all 2s works fine without OC, I'd say the shotgun is worse.

If I had to pick one gun to be the only gun I could use, it would be Stubby: effective, efficient; and reliable.

I'd say it's probably the warthog, too many shots to kill a single enemy for a gun with as little ammo as it has.

You know it 1 taps a grunt or a slasher on a headshot, right?

Crossbow < driller's whatsitsname plasma pistol < Stubby < about everything else, for me.
I can't make any of those work even on Haz 2, so there isn't a point in trying a higher haz.
