Good impact damage, massive aoe damage, massive lingering aoe that puts sticky flames to shame, what more do you want? I don't need more than 4 shots when i get to kill what i'd spend hundreds of ammo on with another class.
Fat Boy does not care about you radiation resistance, grunts. What's that, you are immune to radiation? Take that 400 aoe damage hit the size of half the cave anyway.
Lose 50% direct / AOE damage / Armor break for equal amount in heat, but not in fire damage? for a 10-20dmg/s dot damage?

Technically clean sweep + AOE dmg alone is enough to oneshot grunts, seem a bit of an overkill to gear for persistent damage in dot instead. Guard wouldn't die to either no matter what except hyper / nuke so I don't really see the point?
Just try it, I use it for a reason; as do all the pro Engi's.
No falloff, reduced FF, heat spreads between burning targets. There are so many advantages to it in practical usage that aren't immediately apparent when theorycrafting with numbers from a wiki.
Besides, it's a grenade that shoots out of a gun and makes fire; what more could you ask for?

Also, never use fire mod for grenade launcher, it will make your weapon perform worse.

Damage-wise they are fine. Nuke is a bit disapointing but hyperpropellant is really good. But again, needs more ammo.
Don't know what Chibs has ever done to you, but I don't think he's being sarcastic either.
I'll give you this; Chibbity seems to like weird and off-meta weapon builds. That's not anything against him. But if you're talking about weapon builds with him, prepare to go, "Huh?" at least a few times.
Oh and, I've seen him in-game too. His weapon builds work. Like he said, if you're just looking at the math on-paper, you're not seeing the whole picture for how the weapon actually perform in-game.
