If you want to quickly freeze/burn dreads and Nemesis, you need some setup and possibly some help from a driller to do it.
And yes, the bugs are supposed to explode.
It pairs well with Necrothermal Catalyst for blowing up groups. You just need one bug set on fire. It will transfer the status effect first before doing damage and killing the bug, so it will chain react through all bugs in a line.

what it actually does is be a buggy mess and tool for utterly degenerate exploits/strategies when you actively abuse it in gimmick strategies and a big, fat Nothing™ of an overclock otherwise. you're not really missing out either way and i don't know why the developers haven't just cut it yet because of its problematic aspects and how many patches they've put towards trying to "fix" it. sunk cost fallacy maybe lol
