Tuned cooler and crystal nucleation tend to freeze dreads the quickest
Flow rate expension (when taking T2C bypassed integry check) and Improved thermal efficiency are good for T5B cold radiance.
Snowball has the benefit of being a bit safer to use because of range while also having the ability to prevent dreads to loose their freeze level for a brief period.
When helped by another cryo driller or a scout using cryo nades and or cryo bolts (not cryo minelets, they really arn't great to freeze dreads), most cryo cannon builds are enough to freeze dreads fast.
When helped by a scout using conduction thermal, any OC freeze dreads extremely fast as long you take cold radiance.
The one that benefit the most from this being ice storm because of its low cold and high Rof that nerf cold radiance but heavily increase the damage dealt on frozen targets.
At least I think, I'll admit I haven't actually tested any of this. I'm sure someone who's used conductive thermals vs dreads will show up to tell me I'm right/stupid soon enough.
snowball isn't affected by CD drak (though its only 3 shots to fully freeze a dread and you might only need 2 and finish the freeze with the beam most of the time)
Tuned cooler + CD does freeze really fast but the damage is much lower than CD + ice storm
Ice Storm is optimal for damage with Conductive Thermals, even if you aren't freezing the elemental defense reduction really ramps up the damage.
Also don't forget to use the ice trail to inflict additional cold.
(I need to try Crystal Nucleation and Snowball on dread missions.)
ITE is best in slot for its pressure loss reduction and ammo bonuses. you can comfortably freeze any dreadnought twice in one pressure cycle which is usually all you need before they change phases and become invincible regardless
crystal nucleation can work as the ice crystals are helpful for overwriting a dreadnought's thawing rate (how quickly they lose freeze buildup) but it has an ammo penalty and requires more a thorough understanding on how cryo works. ice storm is also ok if you want to do a bit more damage but you need to be even more persistent on radiance abuse and the pressure loss penalty really sucks to deal with
don't run anything with a flow rate bonus, it only makes the gun less efficient and means more ammo wasted between radiance ticks
ice spear is a meme, snowball is useless vs dreads
also, unrelated tip: don't try to freeze the hiveguard until its abdomen is exposed. its health bar is still greyed out until that point, and even if you freeze it, it wont take any damage. conserve your ammo by focusing on the sentinels, and use your secondary for the protrusions
