Why are assignments designed to be anti-team?
We're a team of 4 casual dwarves that enjoy mining together for gold and glory like the next dwarf, but each one having a different assignment causes unnecessary strife and unnecessary solo plays! :(

What is the designer's purpose behind current assignments?

I get that players love rewards and that tasks should not be trivial so that players feel they have accomplished something. I also understand that they should not be too difficult either to drive away new players. The current assignments achieve that, since you can play at mission diffculty 1 or 5, according to your needs. That's fine.

However, for casual players that do about a dozen missions a week, I always feel compelled to do an assignment to unlock a weapon, a blank core, a promotion, etc. So I never get to chose the missions that I actually enjoy playing (e.g. I love low oxygen missions). Even worse, I usually play with a fixed set of friends, but since they are also forced to do assignments all the time, there is always discussion and strife because of that.

That's no fun.

The season 1 quests are somewhat better, since they are more likely to be compatible with each other, but in addition to the existing assignment duty, the whole thing got much worse. :(

I believe that assignments ought to be changed, now that there are so many different mission types around. How about more assignments that are comptible with each other? E.g. play 3-4 times as class x; kill 3 pretorians with a pickaxe; complete 2 missions without resupply; etc.

Just talk to your friends that you play together the weeklies or agree to play the same assigments?

I have also friends and we simply talk to each other.

Well, how are you about to choose the mission if it's an *assignment*? Like the management even cares about your dwarven opinion, uh-huh.

The two weekly assignments have the same missions for everyone. I recommend msging your friends to save those until everyone is online, then doing them together.

If you are working on the same assignment, the missions are the same. Also all promotion assigments should be the same, regardless of which class you are promoting. (It used to be so that all others were the same and driller had one different mission, but that was fixed in a patch. Now after the latest patch we seemed to see more differences, so maybe it got changed again?)

just work on the least progressed person's assignment, or if everyone's relatively equal do one assignment part per person

The keyword in a co-op game like DRG, is cooperation.
If you want to play together with friends, you choose the same assignments so you progress together. All you have to do for this is communicate with your friends.
Most assignments are 3 missions long, and can easly be swaped to match your friends assignments.
Have you been playing without them and you got 2/3 missions done, then let them play 1 mission for you, and then choose something that your friends are working on, and the other way around.

Unfortunately, doing the same assignment does not guarantee the same missions. I played with a friend to do the core hunt weekly and from the second mission we had different missions.

me and my friends just share assignments and if we dont have any to share we do the ones that are the most important for example a story assignment is more important than a weekly to us. or a promotional is more important than a weapon.

if we do weeklies we do them at the same time to save time. pretty easy. just have basic communication skills

interesting because I never had that issue when we do the same missions. I assume you are playing on the same timezone?

I disagree, played with a friend for a while and we were doing all assignments together. Same assignments will have same missions, maybe you guys picked different ones? Still you don't really have to do assignments, some are cool to finish but weekly don't matter that much, especially priority weekly. Enjoy the game. Try out the new sabotage mission! I personally love it.

It does, the wiki quite literally spells it out that everyone does the same missions.
maybe one of you had some server connection issues or wasnt paying attention.

out of all the generated missions available at any one moment only one for each type is the one available assignment mission for that 30 minute interval until the missions and regions get reshuffled.
meaning that you both could have had a different assignment that started with mission type X, and therefore both played the same mission, since only that one would be the assignment mission for this interval, and then you got mission type Y while your companion had mission type Z.
Tenebris Nov 14, 2021 @ 3:42pm
You could just, you know, alternate? You don't have to do your assignment missions all in a row. You can alternate between doing your assignment, and someone else's. Potentially giving one priority over the others if it has a nice modifier on it
