Septic Spreaders
Out of every enemies in the game, none have made me more infuriated than these walking tomatoes.

The lingering damage is one thing, I can deal with that. But why the hell these guys hit obscenely hard with equally high splash damage, while occasionally being able to hide completely out of sight, not even showing the smallest amount of hitbox for you to at least be able take pot shots or target it for Bosco?

Not to mention how fast they are at times.

Your thoughts?

That is kind of their point tho isn't it? So you need to be able to react and go after them rather than just stand and snipe everything as it conga lines in front of you...

nothing makes me want the horrendous drop pod hitboxes fixed quite like a septic spreader on salvage camping on the drop pod and players trying to shoot it only for those attacks to be eaten by the invisible barrier

I know that's their point, but man sometime they use the top of the salvage drop pod as mortar camp and play ring around the rosie when you try to chase them down, all while the fuel cell charges.

I'm just very annoyed and want to see if people despises them as much as I do.

They are also have the weirdest ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ weakpoint hitbox, because half the time hits don't register as weakpoint hits.

And yes, the fact they can do out of sight shots is infuriating. I've been in a situation where during Salvage a Spreader started lobbing ♥♥♥♥ at me when I activated the blackbox - and it also immediately started raining, so I could see nothing outside the circle for pretty much the entire duration. Just red globs flying in almost vertically, over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over.

Dangerous? Not really, septic spread only covers about half the circle.
Annoying? Ooooh, absolutely. Not fun at all.
Plus I think their spawn rate is overtuned, I see them more often than Acid Spitters.

Not to mention the normally problem solving Mole Coilgun can't even help you in that situation, just makes it extra saddening.

Lucky for Engineers since I think only the cutter can shoot through a pod to hit them.

Other classes require to either chase them down or lob a grenade around it. I feel bad for the Gunners that brought Sticky Grenade, because I've been there, trying and failing to make the nade not hit/miss the pod when you try to arc it over the thruster and stick it on the backside.

The line of 4-5 plates on their abdomen when they're facing you counts as breakable armor, and only takes normal damage unless you remove them.

Is this a "Septic Spreader" problem, or a "Salvage mission drop pod" problem?

I agree spreaders are a huge nuisance when they're camping the top of the drop pod on Salvage missions and you really have no other options but to go chase them down or be stuck trying to dodge their attacks for the duration of the uplink/fueling stage.

Other than that, I don't really have any issues with spreaders in general.

Maybe they could just make the surface of the drop pod have the same effect as platform repellent, so bugs are discouraged from staying on it?
I like the septic spreader. they're like overripe tomatoes just waiting to be popped

Their projectiles are shootable (can even be countered by drills)

Engi poison resistance and the elemental insulation perk work great against them.

Personally I really dont have a problem with them anymore.
If you can handle them with driller builds that are bad against them, you can handle them pretty easily in general.

They are alright, but definitely high priority targets, especially when you have to defend a point or Doretta, if they hide high up behind a ledge it should be the job of the scout if the party got one. :MHRISE_OK:
I'm glad they aren't tanky at least.
[MadTs] Phyrys Jul 22, 2024 @ 10:59am
I tend to play driller with sludge pump, so when some spreader shoots from its cover, the place tend to become a reenactement of WW1, both sides spamming toxins until one of them stops shooting.

yeah they're pretty bad. i like them though, it's nice to have an enemy that forces mobility due to the fact it doesn't need LoS to kill you. they're a much more effective means of countering bunkers than an oppressor slowly trundling in and dying 3 seconds later
i still struggle a lot with hitting their weakspots though, it throws me off that their mouths dont count as one

strong agree, the drop pod's hitboxes are unacceptably poor, i can't believe they havent fixed them by now

Way I see it. Over time I have placed them and trijaws as the highest priority target of all bugs. 4 oppressors incoming from all sides? Who cares, I will prefer to focus the tomato.
Bulk? Well if it's in the open it's avoidable until it can be downed, the tomato is going to keep firing even if out of sight. I'm killing it first.

Menaces and mactera I strafe, spitballers I can dodge, stingtales sometimes can just use to surf to a better position, ect.

Septics however, leave a pile of shield-regen resetting area denial, that limits your mobility. I want them gone.

The amount of times as scout that I've had some snotty simpleton engineer on a salvage mission (and it is Always an engineer) whine to "sTaY N TeH bUbbUL" when there's 2-3 septics that have appeared.

No. I won't. I'll be back when the septic is dead. I know more than you.

while I do find septics pretty annoying at times (when theres like 4 of them lobbing at you from some obscure high up cliff it sucks) I do like how different they are to the other enemies in the game, to me they're a much less annoying and better made acidspitter, giving you actual warnings to it's presence and having counterplay via shooting down it's projectile

sometimes annoying but there are WAY more annoying enemies in this game

my favorite is trying to get around the drop pod with a wall next to the sides of it and just being unable to move due to a 5 foot thick invisible drop pod wall

or when praetorians on salvage do that thing where they climb down the droppod but upside down half-way clipped into the droppod so the pod eats up their hitbox

the drop pod hitbox is the best asset the glyphids have
